The Rugby League lads are lucky they aren't as closely watched as Athletes because if they were they'd be screwed.
This isn't just a rugby league problem though is it, it's a problem in general and what makes me laugh is how footballers don't seem to get caught up in it!!! All that money and going out 7 nights a week and not 1 high profile footballer gets caught out................brown envelopes spring to mind.'"
Yep.
Drugs are part of society in 2009. It's just the way it is. I hate drugs as I've seen what they've done to people, but if we like it or not they are part of today.
Random drug tests etc are really good ideas, but they don't the reality of the situation. If clubs in most sports were honest the exposure to the press could literally end several clubs.

| Quote: No1 Saint "Your being harsh. Wigan RL could do nothing about a player taking a recreational drug in his own time. The only thing they can do is sack him which they probably will do if his B sample comes back positive.
Read some of this thread and it really seems some people are mixing up recreational drugs with performance enhancers. As a professional sportsman he should know better but alot of people take coke and he's clearly not done this to gain a sporting advantage. He'll no doubt pay a heavy price for his mistake now.'"
A recreational drug culture at any club is a hell of a lot more damaging than one or two taking performance enhancers.

| Time to recall Mossop back from his loan spell and for him to step up.
Dont mean to be all doom and gloom, but the little bit of a chance of us finishing (excuse the pun) on a high this season, has now gone and we will be lucky to make the playoffs. Hock was a big game player.
Were one game away from Wembley though, just need to concentrate on this one game.

| From my experiences just like society it is rife within the sport, the funny thing is i have seen lads sail through the tests after only a day to get it out of the system.
Hock is sadly a drop in the ocean and hopefully will provide a wake up call to others in the game who are using the same substances.
Lets face it though is anyone remotley surprised it turns out Hock to be caught?
The sad thing is the club will probably slam him in public but stand by him in the background so that they do not lose out on his services in 2 years time.

| Warrington will be VERY pleased with this news I would imagine, huge blow to wigan's season and coming seasons.
I'm very disappointed - Hock was a big part of any chance we had of competing in the 4N.

| Why should we or any other club want players to get through drugs tests even if they know they're taking stuff?
I don't care how good the player in question is he should get what he deserves and hopefully this will send out a message to everybody within the game.
In a funny way this could be a turning point for this club. It should show these morons we have playing for us what a privilage it is to have a job like what they've got and to be able to play for a club like Wigan.

| Hock was my favourite player but if the allegations are proved he should be banned sine die.
Punishments in society are too lenient and that is why crime and drug use is rife. Even thieving MPs are not punished.
Children in school get a holiday (exclusion) if they misbehave really badly. Hock is a product of our soft society. Yes, he did have a choice but it's so easy to go down the wrong path if there is no fear of retribution.
There is a player at Hull K R who should not play ever again. So sad.

Saying drugs is part of everyday is rubbish, its true but it does not make it any better. Gareth Hock is a professional. I dont get high off my face before I go to work or at the weekend.
Some people would give anything to be able to play for Wigan or represent this country, and this numbskull has thrown it all away for some silly thrill.

| Just flicking through the Radio Times and I notice the first part of a BBC Radio 5 Live summer series called "The state of...." starts with Rugby League.
A perfect chance to hammer our sport down no doubt! What a pillock.
The state of....rugby league is on 5 live next Wednesday 9pm-9:45pm . An expert panel will apparently assess the health of the game at domestic and international level.

| I always wonder why, when a club hears strong rumours about a player having a drug problem, they don't carry out their own testing and disciplinary procedures.
Would players carry on doing it if on the spot tests at training were leading to big fines?

| each of the 17 man England elite squad has to let WADA know where they will be for 1 hour each day for potential surprise drug tests.
now, do the math (as the Americans would say) and compare the list of players "surprisingly" left out of the Elite squad with any number of rumours on various messageboards.

The rugby thats dished up week in week out, not only for this year, but for years gone by. The fact that we have a coach who's man management skills are absolute garbage.
We all know Hock has issues and what do we do, not only to help the club, but to help Hock? Nothing.
A Chairman who says nothing. How much more are people going to take.

Was thinking that earlier, it is rather coincidental that some "troubled" top players didn't make that squad.
