The union club was sold then taken back and then sold again. It's always been a heavily loss making affair, even when they were in the union top flight.
They always kept the businesses strictly separate for various practical reasons.

Well I'm told they always paid their debts (same as us) until their owners did one. Something that could bite us if IL decides one day to pack up and go

| The Headingley Complex is owned by Yorkshire County Cricket Club, but managed joinly by them and Leeds Rhinos.
The redevelopment of the complex is as result of a £40 million deal between Leeds City Council and the Legal & General Company with the work carried out by the Caddick Group which is owned by Phil Caddick who along with Gary Hethington own most of the shares of Leeds Rhinos.
The Leeds Tykes Rugby Union Club no longer play at Headingley but under the deal are allowed to play any big games there if the expected capacity is too big for the Union ground where they now play.

My god, I cant believe he has put that out for us all to see.
He basically says I heard it from 2 people, didnt have time to contact you and then says I've had a busy week so only now sent an email?
If it were him I would keep shut and let this die a natural death. Doesn't look good on him or the Express

| I can’t see this fella being welcome at Wigan, for a while.
If you’re IL, and you’ve gone to fairly unusual lengths to squash this story last week (we all know he doesn’t comment on rumours) then this prat makes this email public knowledge, you’d be pretty peeved.
Publishing the email is a bit petty isn’t it

| Quote: Ruddy Duck "The Headingley Complex is owned by Yorkshire County Cricket Club, but managed joinly by them and Leeds Rhinos.'" Nope. Leeds own the Rugby League ground, Yorkshire own the cricket ground.
There is a joint management arrangement of course otherwise the whole thing would never work (e.g. the stadium hotel is a Leeds asset but based on Yorkshire property and most of the pre-redevelopment corporate facilities are in the pavilion which is owned by Leeds).
Quote: Ruddy Duck "The redevelopment of the complex is as result of a £40 million deal between Leeds City Council and the Legal & General Company with the work carried out by the Caddick Group which is owned by Phil Caddick who along with Gary Hethington own most of the shares of Leeds Rhinos.'" Paul Caddick.
Quote: Ruddy Duck "The Leeds Tykes Rugby Union Club no longer play at Headingley but under the deal are allowed to play any big games there if the expected capacity is too big for the Union ground where they now play.'" True. Which is going to be never any time soon.

unbelievable
so a journalist gets some info but too busy to contact IL to validate. Is IL supposed to feel sorry for him, as he is waiting for the new editor and is busy trying to make a headline for the deadline.
Outside of that i dont know if he has any other jobs, but surely a RL journalist in the off season cant be that busy (its not like we get much coverage when the season is on) that it takes 4 days to pen a response to the club owner, who he was quite happy to write about based on a couple of conversations. Those conversations, in his eyes seemed credible because IL is getting on a bit and IL has pumped some money into Wigan, which he could make back if he sells. Whilst there is a bit of logic, surely wait until you have had chance to speak to IL, and then if you feel it still merits publication, then run the story
