| When was the last time hock had a great game? I can only think back to saints away. He wasnt consistant with his performances and was guilty of alot of brain fart plays.... were alot better off without him.

I think that it was obvious even before now that Gareth Hock can't be part of that culture. I was glad we didn't bring him back and I don't think he should have been considered for England.'"
Agree entirely, a shame tho as he was my fav player!

| Quote: [Gareth] ""An in form gareth hock would have destroyed the Aussies, all the ability in the world and the brain of a slug'"
This is quite a big statement.
Lots of great forwards have played well against the Aussies - Hanley, Goodway, Farrell - but none of them "destroyed" them. And Hock has never been as good as any of those, not even when he was 'in form'.
To be honest, I've not seen much in Hock for quite a few years that made me think he could destroy anyone of significance. He had a good game against Saints a year last Good Friday. When was the last time before that? Seems to me like we're going back into ancient history.
I honestly believe that we are well and truly rid of Gareth - any spark of promise he once showed has long gone out. I don't think it's just a case of him losing form. The main problem now is that the game might soon be rid of him too. He doesn't seem capable of maintaining even the basic disciplines required of a pro sportsman.

Is that hocks chums excuse every time he cocks up, its not his fault or not just his anyway. been terrible this season and shouldn't have been in the squad to begin with.

I note that some of the Salford fans are already making excuses for him on their board. He's being scapegoated, he's being picked on because of his past record, it wasn't his fault, it's being exaggerated etc. All the sort of stuff we used to come out with in the early days of Hock's misdemeanors at Wigan when we were simply in denial about the sort of person we had on our books.
Unfortunately, you can only keep making excuses on someone else's behalf for so long before reality kicks in.

I think the last straw for the majority of Wigan fans was we stood by him during a terrible time and he still treated us like dog muck.

Bobbie Goulding at scrum half? Gleeson in the centres?

Who is making excuses for him? All were doing is refusing to slate the guy before we know the facts/details behind his removal from the England squad. Maybe some of those on here can fill us in on the details and confirm whatever has gone on merits a serious breach of conduct and expulsion from the squad.

The details may come out, or they may not - they don't always where Gareth is concerned, except for his really, really big foul-ups, when there is no way to conceal them. But to an extent, you're already hiding behind that.
What you've got to ask yourself is do you think the England managers would have done what they'd done if Gareth was completely innocent?
Seriously? Do you think they'd have taken such drastic action a week before the World Cup, and publicised it the way they have, if there was absolutely nothing in it? Or indeed if it was something fairly minor?
And you can apply this more or less throughout his career. Gareth cocks up, people try to defend him through misguided loyalty - some even get bolshy about it, trying to spread the blame to other parties, insisting 'the truth will come out, etc'. Except the only truth that usually comes out is Gareth was a naughty boy. Again.
He now represents your club, so you feel understandably miffed that the first thing he does of note is get in trouble in the England camp. But this is why Wigan sold him. You can only tolerate so much from a wayward child.
