I think it was more trying to get someone in for a year and not rushing Sam too early. I think at the time they wouldn't have known Sam could slot in as comfortably as he has. Otherwise it makes zero sense.

Long was not the right man though, we should of gone all out to sign Orford.

Not really, we have a target and a backup. I don't think anyone has signed.... Wane has given it away a few times that he will be assistant or head coach.
