| Quote: XBrettKennyX "I would agree that the coach of the year will come from Smith, Noble and Madge.
At this stage in the season there is no doubt that Wigan have improved.
The question as to whether they have improved in terms of the overall competition can only be answered in the playoffs, and the measure of that will be a GF appearance.
No doubt this last sentence will be jumped upon by those who can't see the bigger picture, but in this competition, the LL shield counts for nothing. It's no good finishing top if you cannot convert that into performances in the playoffs.'"
I can't be bothered going back to check, but I'm pretty sure at the beginning of the season your benchmark for us having improved was "if we won something".
Now that we have "won something", I see you've raised the bar.

| Wigan have been in the past 3 GF eliminators so Maguire had a good base to build on. Smith inherited a bunch of underachivers, got rid of the deadwood(Gleeson) and brought in players who have the right attitude. Saying that I still think your consistency and having the best attack and defence counts for something and if you win something then he should get it.

Sadly, comments like this make me realise that, despite the amount of growing up they've done recently, there are still plenty of Wire fans who are labouring under the 'we can do no wrong' delusion.
Gleeson has been a good-to-very-good signing for us, and no amount of wishful thinking by you lot will change that fact.

| No doubt he's been good for you a change of scene and also the fact he never wanted to play for us might of helped but I wouldn't have him over King, Atkins or Bridge at centre right now.

He was a good player at Wire too, but was deemed part of the culture problem that needed changing. It was a good move from Smith, and perhaps his attitude has improved at Wigan (although I do recall him being dropped for attitude reasons at Wigan?)
Wire have two centres (three if you include Atkins) who have been more impressive than Gleeson this season IMO, so it looks a good call.

It's good to have an opinion, even if it's not always persuasive.

I'd say King, Atkins and Bridge have all performed better at centre than Gleeson this year. I wonder which two of those three you think Gleeson has been better than?

Other fans has hugely underated Gleeson this year IMO. He has been superb in defence pretty much all year. Better than Bridge but behind Atkins and King.

And I'd say That's an opinion, Biased??????
I'd personally go for Gleeson over Bridge/King (The 2 x that play Right centre BTW) but you know what? I'd probably be a bit biased as well as I see 80 mins of Every game that he plays inc those when he may not have scored 2/3 tries etc but made 25 tackles & took the ball up 15 times inside his own half like a 2nd rower at times often relieving the pressure on our forwards.
I think funnily enough that Gleeson has been more of a "Team" player this year and I'm sure no-one can argue with his workrate whilst his wingers have scored 30+ tries outside him.
I bet if you asked Wire fans who they'd pick in each position they'd probably pick 90% Wire players Yet Wigan are 4 points clear top pf the League!
I bet the same in reverse yet Wire have won the CC last 2 x years.

The right attitude part was the key. We got rid as he was a bit of a waster, like somebody said previously, didn't want to be here. Although very talented player and still one of the best centres in the game, just not as good as the 3 we possess.

Do you honestly think Gleeson has been better than King this year?
Compare the stats for King/Bridge/Gleeson on the SL site.

| Didn't Matt King start out on the wing this season until Chris Bridge got injured? Personally I still think that's his best position

| This discussion is getting close to pointless.
Most Wire fans will only have seen Gleeson play on TV, and most Wigan fans will have equally limited knowledge of Wire's centres. (The same applies to the Saints commentator).
No-one is really qualified to say their players are the 'better ones'.
A factual analysis of this season's competition is equally inconclusive. The two teams have both cancelled each other out once. Wire have a won a big trophy, but Wigan have finished the season with significantly more league points than Wire, proving that they are more consistent.
That said, Wigan fans ARE qualified to claim that Martin Gleeson has been a very good signing for them - because he has. And if Warrington have THREE centres who are better than him, their lowlier position in the league table doesn't provide much evidence of it.

| So because Wigan finished 4 points (nats bollock) ahead it proves Gleeson is better?
