| Quote: Deano G "Sorry but I don't think people are facing up to the deep-seated nature of the problems at Wigan. People tend to fixate on the coach OR the signing of the wrong players/failure to sign the right players for the right position OR the apparent lack of fitness of a number of our players OR the poor tactics OR Lockers isn't a good captain etc etc.
The facts are that the whole club has lost its way. Nothing has improved since Mo left. If anything the culture of accepting second best has become more entrenched, with the new phenomenon of "not football related issues" causing problems behind the scenes. All the signs are that the club needs a clear out from top to bottom - playing, coaching and backroom staff (and judging from another thread on this board the marketing staff who allow merchandise to be issued with basic spelling errors!).
Ultimately for me the buck stops with the man at the top, IL.
He must be very concerned at the malaise at the club but there is very little evidence he is prepared to or able to do anything about it.
I have to say that I am very worried for the future of the club.'"
I am going to enjoy digging this thread out in October
We do have a problem at Wigan, but I don't think it lies with the coaching staff.

I'd like to know where Doncaster got their mega bucks for his services last year then.

The club are lacking a Ryan Giggs esk person around the place. Rad's could be that person if he had a resonable position within the coaching staff.
Get Pongia back to help with conditioning whilst we are at it.

Well, we may agree on the SC but we clearly don't when it comes to what is acceptable at Wigan, I'm afraid. I agree that the coaching isn't the only thing to blame, it is part of a general malaise at the club.
Last season wasn't good enough and things seem to be going from bad to worse.
What disturbs me is not so much particular results frankly but the fact that, for example, many of our players don't seem fit enough (or would you disagree?).
Standards have continued to slip across the board, and that is simply not acceptable.
Yes the SC is dumbing down standards (not just at Wigan but of all the SL as the World Cup showed) so we can never expect our team to be as good as it was 10 years ago, let alone the great Wigan sides of the late 80s and early 90s and to some extent we have to accept there will be a number of second rate players in the team but I am sick and tired of watching players with poor attitudes, poor discipline, poor tactics and poor fitness and conditioning.
There's no excuse for that and we should be doing a lot better.
We are a long way behind Stains and Leeds (and their players aren't anything special as the World Cup showed).
That is just not good enough for me as a Wigan fan.

| Quote: sally cinnamon ""Who will win us the Super League back?" that was the question Saints were asking last time Wigan were champions.'"
Ancient history.
Our team is nowhere near the Stains team he took over who were champions only a year previous. More recently just look at how well he did at Cas as a better example of his coaching ability at the top level. Add in the fact he's got an ego the size of West Yorkshire and I'd rather keep Noble until the end of the season.

| Posted this on another thread, but probably more apt on here:
I'l probably going to get shot down for this, but i'm still unsure why everyone is wanting Hanley to be the possible next coach of Wigan.
Ten years ago he coached Saints to the GF win but hasn't really coached at the top level of the domestic game since. How long was he at Saints? Just over a year? He then lasted a month or two at Castleford a few years ago and although he did a very good job at Doncaster last season, this was at NL2 level.
All in all less than three years coaching exprience in the last 10 years.
Don't get me wrong, Hanley is one of my all time favourite players and one of the best to ever play the game....but coaching wise, i'm personally still very unsure of his credentials.
