| Quote: The Yellow Giraffe "21 and 18 in the league so comfortably more than half.
Agree on Hurrell but not Percival. Percival consistently plays well and his standards very very rarely dip.
Hurrell became very hit and miss as the year went on and was eventually dropped for the crunch games.
Our squad is crying out for another centre. Our next best after Percival and Hurrell is either Whitley (a 2nd rower) or Ben Davies who is depressingly average.
I’ve no concerns about our pack at all. An upgrade on Mbye would be nice in an ideal world but not the end of the world. But our backs have very very little depth and it’s glaringly obvious to me we are weak there. We’ve replaced Roby and LMS with Clark and Whitley and then swapped a bunch of kids for another bunch of kids. But quite clearly we’ve not replaced Hopoate yet so I’m still hoping we have something up our sleeve.'"
Not much more in Hurrell's case mate. I make it 60% and I would hazard that several of those were considerably below his best. Judging by his Tonga appearance he hasn't had some Eureka moment either so, even allowing some latitude for Percival (only 70% himself so still not great), I'll stand by my assessment.

Depends which assessment. If it’s the one that said they’re never fit then that’s wrong.
Going back to Hurrell, he looked horrific yesterday. If we get that version turning up in 2024 I’d be extremely worried. He looked physically and mentally shot at.

Got to hope he can get his mind right in the off season and start the pre season with motivation. Might need some mental health support from Saints and perhaps a heart to heart with Wellens which is hopefully all being provided. If not then we’re in deep, deep trouble as it stands

If I remember rightly YG, Matautia only extended his contract late on in the season and that may have had a knock on effect regarding the Whitley signing. Matautia at prop is a big gamble in my view, I think Saints should have looked for a recognised prop rather than possibly putting round pegs into square holes. I suppose time will tell whether the right decision was made.

Konrad has never been fit, he looks way over his fighting weight. Wellens will need to flog him pre-season.

Any worries you have with a guy like Hurrell (and we’ve had it over the years with Feka and to a lesser degree Mago) are doubled when they end a season in poor shape. He’s unlikely to come back in even as good a shape as he is now at the start of pre season, so there will likely be even more work needed come the start of his pre season. Add in the fact his pre season is delayed due to his Tonga involvement and it’s a big big ask.

| The Hurrell gamble has worked out for Saints - he was a big part of their success in 2022 and he was a great attacking weapon in the first part of 2023. Even if he falls off a cliff now Saints fans would have taken that considering his Leeds form. But he was only ever supposed to be a back up option originally and that's probably what he should be in 2024. They'll find someone to replace Hopoate IMO even if its a punt or someone out of left field.

| Saints should have taken Chris Hill for a year or 2 before he signed his Huddersfield extension. Forget his age, he's still a class act. And knowing how tight fisted he is, I'm positive he'd rather be on this side of the pennines instead of wasting all that money on petrol

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

I've said many times that Wigan should have signed Chris Hill when he left Wire. He's been a tremendous servant to whichever team he has played for and was really good again for England in the series v Tonga.

As a professional sportsman he should hang his head in shame. I fully understand his desire to return home and pay respects to his mother but I can’t see the visit doing anything for his fitness.

Hang his head in shame for going home after the season is over? Behave
If he comes back another stone overnight then you will have a point

Hurrell looks like a guy at the end of his career, winding down and looking to the next phase of his life.
Was actually quite sad watching him on Saturday clearly in his current physical state not being able to play at that level which clearly contributed to some of his actions born out of frustration.
I wouldn’t though write him off.
I’d say it’s a case of it going 1 of 2 ways. He could continue on the path he is on and go through the motions and play out his final year or the break and return home be exactly what he needs to motivate him for 1 last push.
I actually hope it’s the latter as he’s a great character and great entertainer and would be great to see him produce a few more highlight moments in probably his last year in the top flight.,

I agree if I was him I would want the fans to remember me fondly rather than someone who was a has been.
