Warrington would be the club that bought everyone and everything up.

These are the answers for me. If you make more money you can spend more money, how better to encourage clubs to grow. How better to reward clubs for bringing through English players than to keep them off the cap?

Yes? It doesn't mean he is English RL's saviour like the papers are making him out to be. Another such example of newspaper sensationalism is that Chris Ashton was once Wigan's superstar, it is just headline making nonsense.
Also, I don't understand how your example reflects that someone isn't overrated. Scott Moore was once in the dream team, too.

| If those figures are correct (which is doubtful IMO), there is no chance that RL can compete with RU anyway - salary cap or not. No RL club (Warrington aside) can sensibly afford to pay a single player £400k a year.

That answers what has gone wrong for England in the union world cup.
Too many players paid too well to care about anything but themselves. Now which sport does that remind you of. Been loads of press re the behaviour of the England players in the WC and thats what the media are blaming for them losing. Personally i think they are a poor side but young men and loads of money = disaster most of the time if not controlled. And by all accounts it was not.

| You were only paying him 80,000 a year??! As one of the leading players at Wigan with 10 years still to give, i have to ask what are the management playing at?? Fair enough 400,000 is huge but he was on 150,000 to 200,000 would he have been looking elsewhere!!

Sportsmen in other countries get rewarded just as well you know, but it doesn't seem to affect them.

And who do you support? Given that most of your posts are on Wigan, I'd assume you support us.
And secondly, if 24 year old academy products were earning 1/7th of our salary cap, then we'd have a squad of about, ummm, oh yeah, 7 players.
Unless a player is a bonafide superstar, then they won't be on more than £150k.

Yes so you must question the management of the players and what they were allowed to do. England players are amongst the highest paid in union but from what was reported the worst behaved. If you are going to a World Cup in any sport any real social life ends for that month.

RFL will pay the wages, and put him on a fast-track to the RU setup.
That's the difference between the 2 codes, not the domestic game, the international game. Everything is tailored to providing a better international side, its whats turned England RU into the team it was in '03 (and isn't far off being now), as well as turning England cricket in the no.1 side in the world.
It's also what the NRL prioritises, everything is tailored for the national side.
That's where we are going wrong, the RFL should be looking at keeping key players on central contracts, more regular internationals etc etc etc.
