| Newton along with Farrell and Radlinski were the players that really made me love this club and i just cant believe this news, absolutely gutted.
Maybe in the future the RFL should do something to help players who get banned because of things like this instead of pushing them away from the sport.
Condolences to his family

| Like everyone, truly shocked when I heard this on Sky. Just awful that he ended up in this situation in his life.
Loved Terry as a player because he always gave his all & genuinely cared for the club. You could see he felt the way we'd feel to play for Wigan.
RIP

| Rather than wearing black armbands would it be possible for the Wigan squad to all have the name Newton on their backs for the Grand Final?
Plyer identification is via their number but don't know if it's in the rules or not

| Very sad news about Terry Newton, I think were all or some are too 2 quick to judge a person who makes mistakes in life, And reading martin offiah tweet makes alot of sence. mertinoffiah@ "Sad time for RL- Maybe players who have failed tests need to be supported more and helped and not just ostracised from the game" obv there was more too it than that .
thoughts are with his kids and family R.I.P Terry Newton

| Im absolutely gutted.
He was my favourite player in his time at Wigan, one of my hero's due to his passion for the club.
Hopefully we can all remember him in the right way at Old Trafford.
RIP Terry.
Let's win the GF for him.

| I don't mind admitting I am in tears at the moment.I knew him off the field through the work he did with the Butterflies Children's charity. He was a really decent bloke.
On the field he never took a backward step and will always be one of my favourite players.
My thought go out to all his family and freinds
RIP Terry

| Just heard this on the Radio, what horrible horrible news. I'm shedding a tear as I write this.
One can't imagine what he was going through, RIP Terry, peace be with you, and with your family.
Totally shocked.

| A Leeds fan in peace here,
I don't normally use words like shocked or stunned because I think they're over-used but I really was shocked by the news when I heard it. To think of such a tough but great player like Newton feeling he has to resort to this has really shaken me to be honest. It probably shows that despite rugby league players toughness and occasional "supermen" attributes they aren't "supermen" but normal people who have as difficult a life as anyone else. Such a waste of a life.
Fortunately, rugby league is pretty good at rallying round at moments like this so hopefully his family will receive all the support possible, but still thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.
I know Wigan wasn't his most recent club and all the club's message boards will have a thread about it but he's a Wigan legend so thought I'd post it here.

| Tragic news my thoughts go out to his poor wife, kids and parents. What a terrible waste of life from somebody who still had so much to offer the game of rugby league.
Please let him be remembered for the right reasons he was a fantastic player one of the very best.
R.I.P

| As a Leeds Fan I can honestly say that it would now be fitting for your players to go out and grab the GF cup next week for Terry.
RIP
