| Quote: DaveO "What has that got to do with the claims made about Noble and Orrell?
Whelan turned the facility over to Wigan RL in 2004 before Noble arrived. Someone said he was the one who pushed for a training facility for Wigan away from the JJB. We already had it before he got here.'"
It was me that mentioned Noble pushing for the training facilities now in place at Orrell. Pre Noble we only had the pitch and changing rooms really so it was not the full training centre it is today.

The training facility was built in 2006 close season and ready for the 2007 season.
Noble had requested that the club found training facilities fit for purpose as they were using the JJB to train when he arrived and he was not happy with the facilities there. The old clubhouse at Orrell was then developed at Noble's behest.

How many times do you need to be proved wrong about this?

| Quote: Cruncher "Getting to the top 4 would mean that we'd improved noticeably on the previous two or three seasons. Which I guess we all want, no?
I wouldn't expect that it means we'd then get to the final. But it would mean that we'd be in a better position to strike for it, and would be less tired and stressed than if we'd had to fight our way there from 5th or 6th.
Now be fair, that's not difficult.
You quote my comment about 'reaching the semis' in isolation from the rest of my post, which is a bit naughty of you. The overall point I was making is that simply getting to semis and never getting past them is not something to take comfort from. We've fallen into a mindset of underachievement, which we need to break. And the best way to break that, is by winning a lot more league games, thereby increasing our own confidence, reducing the confidence of the opposition, reinventing the notion of Fortress JJB, etc.
I don't think I made a particularly controversial post.'"
I don't think the highlighted bit was out of context. The general jist of your post was that reaching semis isn't good enough.
FWIW I agree with your post about demanding a final from the new coach being ludicrous. I was just pointing out the inconsistencies in yours and others argument.
On the one hand reaching semi finals isn't good enough, we need a coach who can take us to the next level etc. Presumably the next level from a semi final is a final?
For example if Noble were still in charge would you be happy with a 4th placed finish and a semi-final? If not why would you be happy with this under a new coach?
We did this in 2008 but then got rid of Barrett and didn't replace him so how people expected us to improve in 2009 is still a mystery.
I maintain I don't think this squad is good enough to win a title. I think Saints are on the decline so we may be in a good position to take a top two slot in the next couple of years, not necessarily next year (although it will be interesting to see how they go without Long in the big games).

I'll ask again.
Dave O.
Did you go to Orrell training ground pre Noble?
Have you been while Noble was coach?
Do you think Noble had input into the reserve and academy systems?

| Just been to riversiders and almost confirmed that Mcguire is new coach, or enough was said to suggest it is an aussie. Ashurst would have loved it to be Wane as would I.

You'd seriously prefer Wane to Maguire?

I'm a Wiganer. Maybe they should let me have a go. I really don't understand all this "Let's get a Wiganer in charge. They know what it means to win". Let's get the best man for the job regardless of where he comes from.
