| Quote: Porterjoh "How did John Winder get the job in the first place? Hardly a glittering CV.'"
He was an assistant / junior coach in the Melbourne storm before coaching Wigan academy / reserves until he was promoted to first team assistant after eith harris or deacon left.
Our attack is dreadful. He is the attack coach.

| Is Winder specifically attack coach? I've never seen him being referred to as such, just that under Wane it was reported that he was the one doing a lot of work with the players in attack. That could easily have just been something that was necessary because he was the only assistant coach we had once Deacon left, and would have allowed Wane to put his focus into other areas. Now that we've got a new head coach and 3 assistants roles and responsibilities could be different.
If Wane is going to be in charge of choosing who is part of the coaching team next season I can't imagine Winder going anywhere. He's his biggest fan.

| I don’t blame one person person alone for our current predicament.
It’s a case of a number of people not getting it right and whilst Winder has some involvement I don’t think it’s as simple as blaming out performances on him or even our attack…or lack of it.
The best attacking teams I have seen have always had a strong pack, allowing the backs the space to spread the ball at the right time.
This Wigan team simply has no go forward down the middle, I can’t imagine this to be the responsibility of Winder.
On another note the responsibility must lie with people who are paid ten times as much to ensure we have the tools to do the job.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| The best our attack ever looked in recent times was 2012 with Iestyn Harris looking after it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring him back as an Assistant.

People keep saying this over and over and over again, and whilst it is self-evidently true, it's far from being the full story, is it? It's a bit too much of a get-out-of-jail-free card for my liking. There's been plenty of occasions when we've had the field position, but lack of grunt from the pack doesn't explain dismal positioning, lack of structure in attack, sloppy passes that go behind attackers, wayward and inappropriate kicks, etc etc.

I agree however I don’t agree that is all down to John Winder.
There is enough talent and ability in that team to be doing much better than we are, the problems come from the coach and those responsible for recruitment.
I wonder how much of a say that Winder had on the recruitment of Burgess & Clark? I wonder how much of a say he has on tactics in general?

Good point, I wasn’t aware he was the attack coach?

I dont need to watch Melbourne storm.
I've watched the wigan side he has coached the attack for the past 4 years to understand the dull as dishwater style of pow it down the middle he coaches.

Infarct watch it for long enough and its down right boring.
