Is it just me that thinks that this combo is completely lob sided? Two physically weak players, neither can really organize, hardly any big game experience and are pretty much the same style. I just don't see how it works. Can anyone explain the thinking behind this?'"
It will be an interesting partnership.
It might come off, and if it does they could be the future England half backs. Richardson is more of a traditional scrum half - dictating play, bossing the pack around and utilising a long kicking game (and a bloody good bomb to the edges). Trueman is more of the traditional 6, looking for line-breaks himself or giving that pass that gets an outside player through the line. He’s got a good short-kicking game that gives us options.
Our problem this year has been playing with one decent half back. Every team knows that Trueman is our only threat so close him down quickly, particularly in terms of our last-tackle options. With Trueman on one side and Richardson on the other (as well as McShane who has a decent kicking game from the ruck), it’s not going to be quite as easy to nullify our attacking threat.
But... both Trueman and Richardson have a habit of becoming anonymous when the going gets tough. Only time will tell if they can both develop the consistency that top half backs need.
