| Quote: Wigg'n "We were 10th/11th in the table for a large period, of course we’ve beaten teams above us.
We’ve played Hull once and lost by one point. Against Warrington we lost at Magic 3 tries to 2 - hardly gave a bad account of ourselves - and the cup game by 2 points. Fair enough Saints have beaten us comfortably twice but I’d rather lose to them in July and beat them in September.'"
I said the teams “currently” above us - the teams we’d need to beat if we stay in the play-off positions. The record is:
P 6 W 0 L 6

| I doubt anyone would argue that Lam still has a lot to do to impress, but maybe this is reflected in the fact that he's only got an extra year.
I'm not sure how long it takes to source, sign and bring over a top coach, but I suspect that would have been very difficult in time for 2020 given that we owed Lammy at least a few months to try and turn things around this year.
If we'd reached July and Wigan were still near the bottom, the decision would have been easier - the 'find a new coach' ball would probably have started rolling by now. However, we're not at the top of the tree either, so giving him a one-year deal would seem like a reasonable response.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| In my opinion I think he’s only been given the job to snare Hastings, hence the 1 year deal to fire him off if he gets any worse otherwise if they had any faith in him it would have been a 3 year deal.
Lam for me isn’t the answer, if he was things would have been better from the start and despite our recent upturn I don’t believe he is the answer and we should be making plans with other coaches or at least having one in mind to take straight over should we feel the need to pot Lam.

We haven’t won a game against any of the teams currently above us this season in league or cup and while we should all be happy with the upturn in results and form it needs to be put into context of the teams we’ve played.'"
Fair assessment and one which I agree with. The upturn in form is very much welcomed and goes without saying its been a huge confidence boost, but the real test comes Friday. If he wins that, regardless of how many by etc that will go a long long way to convincing the unconvinced it’s the right choice. Equally a good performance against Saints with a small loss would too.
My one fear is that if we get a drubbing the good feeling we, and the club have currently will be eroded away and we’ll go back to the early season Wigan rather than unlikely GF contenders.

The same comparison was made to me today, at work. I felt it was a fair one.
Not convinced he’s the answer but also not convinced the great Wigan RL can attract a bigger name. It’s either him or a punt on a Chester or Watson & let’s face it, that’s not going to sell many tickets, either.
Time will tell, I suppose

| Solskjær's problem at Old Trafford was not that he was a bad coach, but that, at the end of the day, his squad wasn't as good as the squads of his rivals.
Just sayin'...

| I learned with Wane, I'd slated him all season, the when we won the GF I quite happily ate humble pie. I don't make any knee jerk comments anymore, I wait for the season to finish and then give an opinion. There's many seasons where a team has been average all season and come good for the playoffs and vice versa, teams have been immense and then folded like a cheap suit when it mattered.

Not like that month wasn't significant, though. Five wins out of five and a rapid ascent from the relegation fight to the top four.
I know where you're coming from, however. I'm sure you'd have preferred Wigan to be coachless and adrift rather than suddenly breathing down your necks.

| Honestly...
I love it when things go pear shape at Wigan and Saints for the banter as you do us...God knows Wire fans have suffered that longer than either throughout periods...but it's relatively short lived amusement...
Whereas beating your dear neighbours while they are in top form has a much greater buzz.
So no I prefer ruddered Wigan and settled side....S Wane and Sam T were always guilty pleasures for me.

| It's not the coach it's:
The constant drain of talent on an annual basis.
Replacements coming in from lower SL clubs/championship clubs.
A steady stream of mid-long term injuries.

I agree completely with that. It looks like IL is running the club on the cheap on the outside. I’m certain there is a reason why, likely we’re spending more or just below what we’re bringing in. And if that’s the case, on what?
