| [quot Quote: Last Son of Wigan "Greg
Edwards
Barrett (was outstanding in a poor Wigan team. Carried us on his own at times, I seem to recall a game v Hull when he particularly dominated. Unlike Greg and Shaun who played in star-studded sides)
Mention to Phil Blake. Spent must of time with us as a FB but was an outstanding 6. Was an NRL star.'"
Phil Blake was one of the best Ive seen, Edwards consummate professional was ahead of most British players the time. Barrett was good almost dragged us to Old trafford ill never forget Bradford away in the play offs

| If anybody has not seen Gregory in action, watch the Wigan V Penrith WCC game on youtube. The pass he provides for Sam Panapa to score has Andy Gregory written all over it. Its just so typical of the brilliance he could come up with.

No. Gregory was the best IMO. As an opposition fan he was one of those players that used to genuinely frighten you to death. Most of Wigan's breaks came off his passes.

| Kenny, Gregory, Edwards, Lam Barrett all top class you could throw Hanley in the mix because he was such a great player I believe he could have played most positions and added to any team.
Kenny was special not just for that season he played for us I would say he would now be played as a 1 I could only dream of watching 1.Kenny 6.Edwards 7.Gregory 13.Hanley
Tomkins also skims that list was magic at his injury free best.

One thing is for sure we will never see the likes of these names again.
I loved watching Andy Gregory even when he was at Widnes he broke our hearts so many times.
I think we can all pick out players who had certain characteristics that defined them but Gregory was certainly very tough and a brilliant rugby brain.
I will always remember his performance in this game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udgV8TgKEB8
The silky skills of Kenny, the professionalism of Edwards and Trent Barrett was shear class, i would even say Mick Ford was a tough kid at the time and very rarely put a foot wrong especially at Wembley in 85.
Great times, great players who had talent, toughness and where picked for the right reasons and not because they ticked boxes of height, weight and how much they could bench press etc

I recall being in a pub in Milnrow (outside Rochdale) in a Robinsons house IIRC. They were having a delivery. One of the dreyman looked very familiar to my Dad and I. It was Stevie Hampson delivering the beer barrels !
That was the 'weights' that he trained on.
