| On the virus issue, I seem to remember in the dim-and-distant that if a club couldn't field a team because of illness (certified by doctors 'notes'), as opposed to 'injury' then that club could seek a postponement.
Was that indeed the case, and if it was, is it still the case today?
If so, and the virus was as bad as Rads says it was, why was the game played?

Can't win either way - complaints from both sets of fans as it would necessarily have been short notice, plus the rearranged fixture would create problems at the business end of the season.

Didn't Salford get refused a postponement last year when they had players missing through injury?
Eight of Wigans Grand Final 2015 starting X111 were missing yesterday.

The same thought crossed my mind and the rules do state clubs have to exercise a duty of care so why we did not seek postponement I am note sure.
As to 10 inured players has known since he did it MM was out for the season but elected to go with Powell for 80 minutes, Sam T wasn't due back anyway (and originally the club decided to go with Lewis T) and even though we have run out of half backs Wane prefers to play Gregson than recall Hampshire.
When you have long term injuries while they are obviously not available you know this and so should try and do something about it otherwise if more injuries arise as they have you are playing kids.

| The club knew on Thursday the extent of the virus. Any Medic would know how debilitating such illnesses can be. Plenty of time to seek a postponement without upsetting too many fans. As DaveO correctly states, the Club has to exercise a duty of care. Tired, unfit players are more prone to picking up injury on top of their illness, so why did the club go ahead and play?
Worry about the business end at the business end. Better to do that than throw 2 points away, and more importantly, to put the welfare of the players at risk.

When you consider that we had to request dispensation from the RFL to play Bretherton and Wells due to it taking us over the cap limit do you not think it's more an issue of the club not being able to recall Hampshire as it would definitely take us over the cap?

| I think we just have to forget about it and move on. As much as missing so many players is an issue the bigger one for us was the players on the pitch weren't fit to play. With a virus running through the squad like others I wondered why we didn't ask for a postponement. Maybe it was thought it would be better to write off the game rather than end up with a fixture congestion later in the season possibly playing a midweek game if either us or Wakefield were still in the cup.

Most definitely worth a listen especially for those giving the team some stick after yesterday. I think i might close my eyes and open them mid May.

Interesting question that Ted.
On the Wakefield fans forum posters are already asking the question, if Wigan players played still carrying the tail end of a virus what happens if half of the Wakefield team pick up the bug if the virus was still live.

Everyone should've waited for half season tickets.

| What I'd like to see is our best players on the park, playing a better brand of rugby than we have seen for the last 12 month. It's going to need more than players back to really begin to entertain, I'm not happy with just winning, I want to be entertained. I don't want our better players taking it in turns to win games, I want to see a team that play with flair and fluidity. Is Wane the man to get us firing in attack? I don't think so he now seems limited. Is he a man to get them fired up and defensively solid (most of the time)? Probably yes. We need a coach that can do both.

I think that's a very fair question for the Wakefield fans to be asking.

| All that information and the virus wasn't given an actual name or the symptoms of the said virus and it's effects. The interviewer only used flu as an example of a virus which Rads went along with. He didn't confirm or deny it was flu.
