| Quote: Arthur Warrior "I'm all for it , I think it's a great idea and we should be more positive about this.
We have to move the game and the club forward and we can't do that without taking risks and backing what the club is trying to do.
The pre-season match in London on a Friday afternoon is a prime example of thinking outside the box and it's proved popular and a success.
We should get down there in numbers and support the team and the club in this latest adventure.'"
Why? Why should we do this what does it bring to the club? what does it do for the fans and more so where will it end?

The Den not that well served by the Tube, I see (like much of South London). I'll rely on my son's local knowledge for the buses.'"
London Bridge station (rail) is a bit of a nightmare at the moment due to redevelopment but you should be able to get a train to South Bermondsey - this is next door to the Den and I think there's a direct walkway to the ground.
You can also walk it from Surrey Quays (London Overground East London line) in about 15 mins - but watch yourself round there. There'll be plenty of unfriendly locals only too happy to set about anyone from outside an SE1, SE16, SE8 postcode who's strayed onto their manor.

| Im glad Wigan have done it. I'm looking forward to watching a Super League game in London. The Den is a short walk from South Bermondsey Station which is one stop out of London Bridge.

take it from the post you would not advise travelling down in the car and parking near the ground then

| Ignore people saying it's rough (I live 10 minutes walk away). Granted it's not the most scenic place in the World but any potential for problems are restricted to football really (although I can vouch for the intimidation factor of the football games) - otherwise just exercise normal common sense and it'll be fine, there are far worse areas in Wigan.
Logistically it's reasonably accessible, there's a train station next to the ground as mentioned, and the Overground (a train that stops as often as an Underground tube for the uninitiated) is about a 10/15 minute walk away. In fact it's much more accessible from Euston than any of the venues London Broncos have used in the past decade or more. It's half surrounded by an industrial estate so for a smaller event parking shouldn't be a problem.
There aren't many great boozing options though...
Still think Loftus Road or Craven Cottage would be a better option for RL in London.

Was that at the Old Den? Cold Blow Lane? Can't remember when it was that the 'Wall moved to Zampa Rd. '88? I'd moved from the area by then.

The benefits to Wigan as a club are laid out by IL in the announcement (blue chip companies, wider talent pool).
As a businessman he's obviously weighed up where he can make some gains outside of the normal activities the club are engaged in. All of this will be underpinned by plenty of research and plenty of groundwork put in before the decision was made.
In regards to 'where will this end' question the fact we've been running with friendlies in the capital for a while and we've just launched the business club project suggests it's a long term kind of thing.
The only thing I have an issue on is IL saying our goal is to be the biggest club in the world. I'm a BIG IL fan but I just don't think he truly means it. If he does then he needs to see that for all the potential good this will provide us with its all undone by the current attitude towards the first team.
If he wants us to be the best in the world why doesn't he bring in a proper head coach, invest in some more top quality players or stop the jobs for the boys culture? The fact we are constantly looking to the juniors or for that next project signing like Gelling makes a mockery of stuff like this imo.

Can't remember exactly - it would have been very late eightieswas [/ipersuaded to go (dragged along) as part of a double-date so memory is a little hazy - except for avoiding the inevitable (let's just say) "disagreements" in the crowd at full time).

Full time only? I went once ( Hammers fan) it was 'disagreements ' before kick off, all through the match and after!

| Hope it's not an evening kick off . . . .
I'm sure the locals will welcome the northerners and French with open arms.

Wakefield Trinity, Halifax, Workington Town, Hunslet..... big rugby league names of the past but where are they now. If we don't want to drift into the same mediocrity and anonymity as these clubs have, and others, then we need to continually evolve & innovate.
This, I hope, is only one of a series of initiatives that will keep Wigan at the top where we belong.

What I can not grasp is , how will Wigan playing a team from the south of France ( who have zero away support ) in an empty stadium in south London " keep Wigan at the top " ?
Now if this game was at Twickers or Wembley with 40 -50k in yes I would agree with you but it's not.

I understand that this is about spreading the name of Wigan Warriors but why do it now for gods sake at the business end of the season and if your going to spread the name then Millwall isn't the place to do it, the name of the place itself is already putting people off. As fans we've travelled home and away to support the club this season with Shaun Wane constantly throwing at us that every game is a must win as it guarantees you home games in the playoffs and now we forfeit that by moving a game to the other side of the country we may as well have finished 5th! I'm all for developing rugby league and spreading the brand name that is Wigan but not at the expense of the fans and if you must do this then don't pick the most important games of the season to do it.
