| Mad that in the last 4 seasons the 2 teams have won the CC 2 times each, Wigan have 2 LLS, Wire have 1 and Wigan have a GF win, with Wire having a GF appearance, yet they haven't met in a final yet.
It's the final that should have been for the last 4 years, and what a great way for players like Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards, Lee Mossop, Adrian Morley, Garreth Carvell and Brett Hodgson (if he plays) to finish their careers at their respective club.
I can't wait!

No, no, no no and no.
Wigan v Saints is the BIG game.
This one on Saturday is a big game because it's a final, but even if we lose we'll have had a good season (Challenge Cup and U19 Champions) For Wire it's a massive game, if they lose they'll come away from the season with nothing. They will be desperate for the win.

| Massive. As already mentioned, Wire games started getting really important ever since they knocked us out of the cup in '09. Saints games just haven't seemed quite as important, possibly because they don't really have those players you love to hate anymore like Long, Cunningham and Sculthorpe. I mean no one likes John Wilkin but he's not really a threat, he's just annoying. The wire team on the other hand is full of players who I can't stand and are a threat. Plus they've had the better of us for years now. The last season we beat them more than they beat us was 2004, and even then they did beat us once! I'd just love to see Briers' face if we beat them.

| It doesn't have to be either or. However you cut it, Saturday is huge and the final that the broadcasters have been praying for over the past two years.
Games that are bigged up rarely live up to expectations, but there have been some mammoth clashes between the two sides over the past few years and Saturday will be no different.
It's only Monday and I am already giddy, it is going to be a long week. Lets both sides pack the stadium out and enjoy 80 minutes of the greatest game of all.

| Quote: Geoff "I agree with this - it's a massive game for Wire, to be sure, but can almost be described as "just another final" for us. Saints, despite their (probably temporary) decline, are still the Old Enemy, and as you say we've already had a great season even if we do lose.'" With all due respect that post smacks of arrogance + it certainly doesn't seem like 'just' another final going by the vast majority of threads on your board.Eitherway may the best team win.

| I'd care about this just as much if Hull KR has somehow sneaked through to the final from eighth, but had seen their entire squad banned for a mass brawl in the 79th minute of their semi (after they had secured the win) and we were now playing their U19 team in the final instead of Wigan's first team.
Yes having a big local opponent does give it some extra spice, but I'm just desperate to see Warrington win the Grand Final no matter who the opposition and what the circumstances are.

| Firstly, I am thrilled that we dismissed the Whino's on Friday. I took great pleasure in watching certain ( not all ) players with bitter disappointment as they crept off the field.
But Saturday is The Grand Final.
This is the trophy that EVERYONE wants and we are now one of only two teams left, it does not get bigger than that and although I would dearly like to silence the Wolves taunting, my biggest hope is that we just lift the trophy.
I still think Saints is my biggest rivalry and will always remain so, but it is good to have so many good quality teams here in the north west and it certainly adds spice in games like these.
May the best team win, and that be us !

| This is the best final based on recent seasons. Unfortunately, whether in the CC or the SL, one of our teams have cocked up the opportunity for us to collide at this stage. But no more.
I look forward to Wigan matches more than any other, and can not see that changing for the foreseeable. There is no bitterness whatsoever either, even though I can unfortunately remember times when our players got steam rolled by what appeared to be boulders carrying the Norweb logo.
Should be a cracking final either way. Players leaving from both clubs after this and they deserve to be involved in a brilliant final.
Of course I am all out for a Wire win however.
See you Saturday.

I don't notice any more excitement on here than there was prior to the CC finals this year and 2011, and certainly less than the 2010 GF. Haven't looked back at earlier years threads, but I suspect they were much the same.
If anything, most recent posts seem to be about the Bowen/Tomkins moves, rather than the final.

Couldn't have put it better myself! Those are the reasons I'm looking forward to the final, I'm just glad that it finally happened before all that quality left the 2 best teams of the last few years.
But seriously, I grew up in Warrington, lived there most of my life and have been around Warrington fans so much more than St Helens fans.
This game is nothing compared to 2010.

| They seem to be the biggest matches for Wigan now when we play Warrington, the Saints games have a superb derby feeling but the Wire games edge it! IMO of course.
Not being from Wigan i guess i can say that, i get more will for us to win for a wire game than a saints game.
Can't wait for saturday so much, trying to tell myself we have nothing to lose so's to take the nerves away, and i can see Wire fans looking forward to it massively with the possibility of their first title since Jesus's dad was a nipper.
MASSIVELY EXCITED

| I look forward to Wire v Wigan more because it has more than local rivalry.
It has a great atmosphere and usually very high quality rugby, seriously how long ago was there a bad game, the only one I could really think of for Wigan fans is the one at the HJ 39-12 but I think (might be wrong) that was your next game after Wembley.
It's the high quality that is the main draw for me, both our defences are top draw and our attacking philosophy although very different in approach is very fruitful and good for the fans and the neutral.
Wigan have an almost NFL playbook style of attack that twists and turns the opposition inside out, Wire play an almost chess like attack, watch the opponents watch their moves and workout and cater their attack accordingly, completely off the cuff but intelligently so.
I'm struggling to sleep I'm that excited.

| Much bigger for Warrington than Wigan. Until they break the run going back almost 60 years this will always be so. Winning the cup this time has also taken the pressure off us.
