And is a knee infection not an injury that will keep him from playing?

| Can't believe the amount of ungrateful crap stu gets. All he ever did was try his absolute best for this club. Bad luck with injuries are an unfortunate part of some players' careers. SOLs knee reconstruction and broken shoulder, anyone? Compared to some of the squad with their disaffected wives, homesickness, early bail outs and lack of effort once their future elsewhere was arranged he deserves a medal.

Im confused here. i havent seen a whole heap of posts condemning SF ?
The issue was always the money he cost on the cap vs the game time. No one doubted his application or honesty.
I wasnt happy with him when he had a hissy fit cos the fans booed when we were playing cr@p, but i have no doubt he always tried his best.
As for bigging him up cos he didnt want to leave go back home - well Im not aware of any UK based players that have ever been tarred with that brush ? surely that a particular trait of the cash hungry imports ?
lets not lionise people for NOT doing the wrong thing, but rightly criticise players who ease off or take the easy way out.

| 1 if Fielden wanted felt he owed the club who had spent a lot on him while he was injured he could have accepted the money for a one year deal on offer - he chose not to do so, as is his right, and so I can't say I particularly care what happens to him either way
2 he made a handsomely paid contribution when he first arrived, and did a good job in our first Madge year. Not a great, but certainly not a Vaeeliki
3 what interests me about Fielden is the number of posters who, after the Saints game, were so certain that we had made an error in letting him go. Future events have shown that to be a ridiculous assertion.
4 he almost certainly tried his hardest, and to suggest otherwise does him a massive a discredit. He is in a job without any hiding place. Good luck to him, even if on balance he was given more than he gave back to us,mthrough no fault of his own.

| looks like we have been vindicated letting him go.
Saved a heap of salary cap, hasnt ripped it up elsewhere (and is injured/ill), had injuries in his position and coped admirably, not thwarted any Wigan youngster's development.
pretty much couldn't have gone better (from a WIgan point of view obviously)

| It could have been worse. If he'd had the op at Wigan & Leigh Inf he'd be lucky to get away with amputation.
As above I fail to see how the big fella getting an infection vindicates anything Wigan have done.
I think Crosby and Burke have done that?

You are distorting the facts here somewhat. He has played 9 out of 13 games for Huds. Same as Goulding for us. We have Prescott who has played 1, Lauaki who hasn't played any, Hansen on 2 and Mossop on 6.
Based on those stats Fielden is positively bullet proof in comparison.
As to his salary cap value I doubt he would be on a heap of dosh as I bet he isn't at Hudds.
The youngsters have stepped up to the plate but whether they can keep it up for a full season and handle tough CC matches and finals football where experience does count, well that remains to be seen.

He did have the op at Wigan & Leigh, as well as several before it.

more than happy with Flower Dudson and Crosby as second strings for the missing 'first teamers' you mention
