| Quote: MadDogg "Hock was dreadful last night. A couple of big runs and offloads shouldn't disguise that.
A performance that typified why Wigan shouldn't worry too much over his departure. No brain, no discipline and can't be trusted on or off the field.'"
This x1
You can see the cohesion in the squad now he has gone. Good riddance to bad news i say. He made his own little media circus so he could go and play happy families at Widnes and it will all backfire on him. He will have fallen off the radar in a few month and he will just become yet another player in a bottom side's team. His career will be ruined because of his own ego and it's all his fault. Couldn't care less where he ends up as long as we get a good fee.
Come on Salford throw us 100k and he can embarrass your team with his drug and alcohol taking.

| Hock did what Hock does in that game. With or without the ball something is happening everytime he's involved in a tackle be that good or bad.
He's a game breaker and again that can be in a positive or negative sense. He could easily have lost Widnes the game in the first with a raft of daft pens but then played a huge part in the 2nd in bringing them home.
It's pure entertainment but he wouldn't have got away with that first half against Warrington or Leeds.

Heard he got sent off for confronting the ref. Could be a long ban given the past history on that score.
Farrell has got ten times his brains but he hasn't got the attacking skills Hock has. If Hock was just a shade brighter he'd be truly world class. I can't say I am anywhere close to being gutted he isn't here any more though despite the relative merits of him and Faz. Like Newton who was a very good hooker he seems guaranteed to cost you an important game so nullifies all the great stuff in the run of the mill matches that he does.

For the second half of your match I must be awesome. Well I did just as much as Hock to help Widnes.

Unfortunately, that stat is quite representative of Gareth's time at Wigan.
He was useful to us for about 50% of the time. The rest he was absent.

| No doubt he is a player of great passion and ability but once more the, more trouble than a barrel load of monkeys, syndrome surfaces once again!

| Brain dead!
This Wigan team looks more steady without him. It may lack that impact runner that Hock is but the errors have dried up and we look very solid.
I always said Hock at Widnes would be a liability. There is little pressure or expectation at Widnes and that's no good for a player that needs keeping in line. He needs to be challenged and needs to be made to feel as though he has a point to prove.
I shudder to think what trouble he'll bring to Widnes once the honeymoon period is over!

I agree. Hock needs to be at a big club to have any chance of being kept in line, even then history has shown this still isnt always the case, and him being at a smaller club like Widnes is a recipe for disaster.

| I think Hock having Betts as his manager is no good for either of them. It's going to be a situation like us under Cullen. To pally and a little afraid to upset the apple cart. This could Come crumbling down.

It's highly possible I'll be slated for having this view, but I still think Wigan's steep decline towards near-relegation commenced when Betts took full control of the team.
Okay, Millward's poor man-management almost finished us off, but we were on the slippery slope before then. Lots of other factors contributed - not least Whelan and Lindsay having totally taken their eye off the ball - but there were all kinds of stories about player power and the coach's matey approach having lost him the dressing room etc.
Great player, Bettsy, but I'd have no confidence in him as a head-coach.

Question is where will Hock end up beyond this season?
He has every incentive to play well this season because his next contract is an important one but getting red cards will not help if he wants to get a lucrative contract and also play in the world cup.
Personally I think Hock is an immense talent and one of the very few players who can cause the Australians problems but rumours around his off-field issues eclipse that unless Hock proves otherwise.
