| I'm sick of them now. They're just embarrassing. The way they behaved today just sums the lot of them up in one.

| Didn't see the fighting but had to move my 7 and 5 year old away from a bunch of swearing ... How can put this delicately? ... no I won't bother .. Scrubbers, at the motorway services shaming the Wigan shirts they were wearing.
( I can live with monotonous songs provided they're clean )

| Whilst i totally agree that any decent human being finds this behaviour disgraceful and embarrassing by proxy, it should be said, its not only the Wigan club that sees this issue.
Walking from and back to my car at the Warrington match with 8yr old in tow last week, i had the misfortune to be walking a few paces behind Warrington supporters banging a drum and chanting obscene songs (as they did throughout the match).
When comments are made about not swearing around children, they simply reply with more abuse.
And i hasten to add I am not just targeting the Wire support last week, it happens elsewhere as well, just so happens that last week was the most recent episode.
The time has come for ALL clubs to stamp down on this. Stadium rules ban all offensive chanting - time to start acting on this rule instead of continuously turning a blind eye to it.
And i don't hold by the argument that its too difficult to enforce. Eject and ban couple and the rest will soon learn.

| Quote: Orrell Lad "It's about time they grew the f*** up and stopped dragging the name of the club through the dirt. The flags, songs, fundraisers etc were great when they started off, what happened to that?'"
Quote: Orrell Lad "The initial idea from the group seemed to have good intentions and seems to have really added a bit to the DW stadium experience.'"
The original plan around three years ago was to create an atmosphere of colour and noise within the DW (and on the road). As you say fundraising events were organised, bucket collections pre games were started and all monies spent purchased the flags which you see along the top of the South Stand gantry, cherry and white bar scarves and pin badges were sold and all proceeds were used to purchase futher gantry flags including the 'We are Wigan' banner displayed in the West Stand. As momentum grew further fundraising events were organised to raise money for local charities with split proceeds funding enormous flags on poles (World Club Challenge as the teams were led out), proposals were in place to include young Wigan supporters to create their own flag design and for the club to decide a winner, the Brigantes would then fund the flag through the design and manufacture and be hung with other flags in the South Stand - although this idea never got off the ground unfortunately.
A lot of other ideas were put on the table (to include a 'Junior' brigantes - eg Kids aged 10 and under, merchandise to suit all supporters....etc), again ideas which never materialised.
Around the time of the Challenge Cup QF & SF at the Halliwell Jones where the atmosphere peaked on the road, hundreds of Wigan fans waving bar scarves and large flags on the terracing - didn't the BBC even comment on the 'joyous Wigan fans celebrating their victory' well after the final hooter? Even rival supporters on these boards wondering how to imitate such a fanbase!!
I won't wash dirty linen in public and I certainly don't like to name names - probably because 'in hindsight' best intentions were served at the time and 80% of things that have been delivered has been brilliant, but during the off season twelve months ago it was felt that the Brigantes would shift purpose and explore other avenues centred around the improvement of atmosphere during games itself. Around this time, some of the supporters (myself included) who had been actively fundraising for flags became less involved with taking the Brigantes forward (i'm in my forties - maybe twenty years ago under the Popular Stand but not these days, so my decision was to leave it with the younger lads).
Now firstly, some of the 'on terrace' ideas such as home made "2-stick" banners) which were fantastic - some of which were amazing "Mossop the Boxer" and "Tuson" to name just a few. Very impressed with these!!! Not so sure about the day we had the 'Tin Foil'?, buy hey-ho. Some of the chants, although new to most at the time became firm favourites - some good stuff there.
In general within the DW I think things are handled pretty well - the group themselves behave themselves on a regular basis. There does however seem to be an issue with matches on the road - Smoke bombs, young lads tanked up and fighting between themselves, supporters encouraged not to wear club colours, scarves worn over faces....etc. This is not what being a Rugby League supporter is about, it certainly wasn't what was envisaged two/three years ago round the table in the Anvil.
It's make or break year for The Brigantes this season I feel, how long before away clubs limit Wigan fans tickets or the Wigan club get involved?
Supporter behaviour at away games needs to improve and it's only a small number of tanked up youths giving the rest a bad name. Pack it in!

| We do have issues with some of our fan base away from home , as i was walking out of the stadium today " a group of our younger element just wanted to go and look for trouble outside the ground " i just said to them don't bother lads and they looked at me in shock , i just hope they took the advice.

| Whenever anyone on this forum last year had the temerity to wave warning flags around the emerging [iS2 [/iand [iUltras[/i "brands", they were shouted down by the various bullies attached to the more militant brigade on here. I'm fairly sure there's no satisfaction in being proved right, but you were warned and did nothing.
Kick out the little tw**z now before it's too late.

| Sad to hear that a number of you have had your day spoilt by a small minority. hopefully it will be nipped in the bud sooner rather than later. Every club has their idiots, there was a stage during the summer where a few at Warrington decided to imitate the Briganthings but fortunately they got bored after a while.
Everyone should be able to go to a game home or away, enjoy it in the company of RL fans regardless of their club then go home without having felt intimidated or offended.

| not just their behaviour today but the atmosphere from the wigan fans was poor, apart from a few hundred moaning along to a drum and the odd 'wigan wigan' chant there was hardly any atmopshere from wigan fans which was surprising as you are usually excellent vocally.
as for the numpties,im afraid they are an embarrassment to your club, i caught sight of a few after the game with hood up and scarves over their faces and i thought how pathetic they looked.
there was also an argument in the car park with some dodgy looking lads in a car who were trying to leave the car park and couldnt understand why they had to wait and were getting very agressive with the attendant who was fighting a losing battle trying to explain that they couldn't just drive down the ramp with hundreds of people walking about.
anyway i hope for your genuine fans sake you get rid of these idiots as i really cant see what,if anything they bring to games apart from trouble.

| Can we stop with the "go and watch Latics" e please? I see far more incidents at rugby matches than I do at football matches. Stop pretending rugby league is as clean as a whistle.

It's cleaner than football and we'd like it to stay that way.
I warned against the "Ultras" and was shouted down. I can understand that, people didn't see any harm in it and wanted to protect their club. Unfortunately, such groups attract the wrong sorts of people and give them an outlet to behave in the manner they feel most drawn to as we are seeing.
Didn't see a problem with the Wigan atmosphere before this lot came on to the scene, you were a good semi loud bunch of fans and they weren't needed and now they are proceeding to soil your situation.

As stated, I see more incidents at rugby than I do at football.
Yes football has more problems in regards to things like racism but at RL recently we have had homophobic abuse hurled at players. Some songs from teams are getting worse and worse by the year.

| The reason you see less incidents at soccer events is because they are heavily policed, fans are segregated and visitors are transported to designated pubs and their stand in convoys like cattle contaminated with foot and mouth. I for one don't want that in our game.
