| While i have been very critical of Wanes 'tough' approach all season, i think he will learn from the two semi final defeats. Hopefully he will drop the hardman mentality and stop winding opposition players up before big games. At the end of the day we will never have another Maguire as coach, he is a one off and was far too good for SL. We were beaten by the better team tonight, on another day we might have won. That is the nature of play off rugby. Does XBrettyKennyX think Wire should have sacked Smith after they lost last year?

My 14 year old son passed comment on the wisdom of playing an inexperienced fullback ...... don't get me wrong JM is a very talented player, hopefully tonights events don't break his confidence.
As for costing us the match I have to disagree .... I thought a crucial decision featured early in the game when we ran a very kickable penalty ..... we didn't just miss the opportunity to take two points (ironic since we lost by one point) but we then dropped the ball and Leeds went the length of the pitch for their only try.

| Quote: HBK-aholic "3. You can justify it incredibly easily - they were the best team in the play-offs, against everyone they played. Are your complaints that there are more than 4 teams in the play offs (Not much of a play off system) or simply that the teams (Not including whoever wins tomorrow) above 5th position were not good enough at the end of a season to win the play-offs? Is this a play-offs issue, or an issue about the top teams not being strong enough to play to win all the way up until Old Trafford, with the pressure? That's not a criticism - I'm not here to troll the board, it's just a question.'"
There are numerous problems with the current play off format that have been mentioned on here long before tonight. The first is the current format means some fixtures are impossible so a team from lower down can get to the final without being tested against a team who finished higher in the league. That is wrong and easily put right by the old top 5 system.
Another problem is the team with the easiest game in week 1 is the team that finishes 5th. The 4th placed side who finished higher up the league "won" the right to an away game at the top placed side whereas the side finishing 5th is at home to 8th. That is an absolutely stupid way to do things. 3rd is away at 2nd while 6th is at home to 7th. This is also stupid. In a top eight system there is no way any team in the bottom four should have a home game in week 1 when sides who finished above them are away at tougher opposition.
As it happened Les Cats had a very tough game v Wigan then played Leeds who had an easy win against a poor side who do you think was the fresher of the two teams?
And that highlights another reason why the top 8 is rubbish - the standard across the league is not high enough for a side finishing 8th to be anything other than cannon fodder.
The top 5 is miles better. Under that the 5th placed side would have to win every game away from home playing every side sides who finished above them. That is a proper "reward" for finishing 5th. And no poor sides in the competition either.

Wane brought most of the current team through the ranks so surely it is more his team than madge's? He has also debuted many youngsters this year which is a credit to him and will pay off in the future. Sure he has a lot to learn, but finishing top with most points for and against ain't bad for a first year with plenty of young lads coming though. He must have more than just passion to do that.

| McDermott has never played a hopelessly inexperienced player in a big game. Oh, hang on, he might have done it at wembley, wasting a bench spot as well.....

| The playoff system is a joke and you've been shamefully robbed yet again, of that there's no doubt. But, ultimately, Wane has steadily eroded the fantastic side that Maggie put together, and take Tomkins out of your lineup and personnel wise you're just not all that special compared to Leeds or Warrington (or us in the forwards) and will be worse next season (just about better than us in the backs still though). I think your achievements over the last 3 seasons have papered over a few cracks and next season might be a bit of reality check for you guys.
At least you will have halfbacks though unlike us ....

| I must admit i feared this since the CC Semi, i hoped our form would improve but it didn't really. Not sure what can be done now but with the loss of key players and experience, Wane is going to find his job that little bit harder.

| For me we once again lost a big game this season in the forwards, had an awful kicking game and had little/no direction from half back. This has been the case in all of the big games that we have lost this season.

he dropped the ball, Wigan went offside and Sinfield kicked the goal and the rest is history. felt sorry for the lad,it's a lonely place at full back. but to receive a high ball in wet conditions near the end of a crucial game was a task beyond him. no doubt he will come good but it was a dumb decision by wane to risk him in such a vital game.

Yeah, forwards seem very average apart from Flower (Lima bye bye) who really impressed me..hope we keep hold of him, also would have liked to have seen dudson as he has always impressed me first team making yards.

If you were a 1500 metre runner and you led the field for 3 laps(1200mtrs) and then you were caught and finally overtaken by other runners, would you say you were the best...i think not..and Wigan should be the best , unfortunately Shaun Wane is not the man to take them over the finishing line in 1st Place, he may be able to take us to within but we ned someone who can finish the race in the lead

To be fair to him he outplayed nearly all his team mates in the 1st half. Played his heart out and done us proud I think. Made a couple of big-ish mistakes but then we've recently seen Sam make some clangers.
