| Quote: NickyKiss "Wane try's to wind up his players with these comments to motivate them to win games but sadly they can go either way. In the recent league meeting with Wire all his talk of us wanting to smash them only worked to fire the Wire pack in to a frenzy.
It's a very risky business and it's a business I'm not sure he's clever enough to be in. He should keep this all 'in house' IMO.'"
I disagree. I'm as close as possible to being certain that Wane's comments had absolutely no influence on the result against Wire. They'd have smashed our pack regardless! It's not like they were hanging on Wane's words for motivation, they won't have given a damn. They are professionals after all. If a coach having confidence in his players is enough to fire them up then they'd have to be an awfully sensitive bunch.
What happens in the press matters little. Maguire never used to say much and was subsequently boring. It didn't really matter. Wane speaks his mind and seems to like his media duties and likes to give a good quote, it can be entertaining or cringe worthy but it also doesn't really matter.

| I'm pleased that Wane has stated publicly that he expects McGuire to get a ban because this will balance Macdermot's statement saying that he shouldn't get a ban. Barry McDermot on Sky also said that it was a nothing tackle. I thought it was very brutal and I was surprised that someone like Mcguire would attack the head like that. Saying that the play was falling was ridiculous because he had been falling for a couple of metres, it wasn't a sudden slip.

| Quote: tigertot "Wane might come across to outsiders as a blundering ape but he is simply adopting the Alex Ferguson approach of constantly being victimised in the ruling body & referees subconscious. Getting his palyers to tweet, or whatever social media young people use, merely reinforces that.'"
Brian McClennan used to do this with Leeds. Because RL and football are different games, the main result of adopting the Ferguson approach was the loss of possession and territory due to an increase in penalties for dissent. If Wane's teams want to argue with the referee rather than stand in the defensive line then that's just fine.

I agree. It's not like McGuire didn't know where the players head was. He just saw an opportunity to put in a bit of a cheap shot, did it and got caught out. It's naive to think he just got an ordinary tackle wrong. He swung his arm and had every opportunity not to smack the player in the head. It's not the worst attempt in the world, but if the disciplinary are consistent he'll be looking at 2 matches given that he's already been suspended once this year. Leeds fans may think he's whiter than white but if you swing an arm directly at someone's head you deserve a ban.

I'm not talking about on the pitch, though that is an issue, it's the constant reinforcement of the perception of victimisation in the background.

Here's an idea form the left field. He was swinging at the ball. I have seen it before in the tackle.

But he missed and caught Louis Anderson square on the jaw, hence the charge of a reckless High tackle. simple really

Exactly, I said from the outset I expect a one game ban, which Leeds can't argue with. I was suggesting it maybe wasn't a malicious, deliberate attack to the head which could warrant more. As Phil Clarke said, following Westerman's similar effort, there should possibly be the option of a 10 minute spell of reflection immediately after the event.

Massive kick off on the Leeds forum as expected, majority of posters slagging Wane off for commenting that McGuire should expect a ban.
Quite a difference compared to what most thoughts on here were prior to the Micky Mac judgement (majority of Wiganers expected he deserved at least 1-2 games).

| He is becoming the Doug Laughton of the super league era but currently living of Michael Maguires work. He is obviously under pressure to bring a trophy.
