| Danny is a good player but I'd rather have one of their academy players fill Tommy's spot than Brough, he would be a 30 year old journey man who is notorious for being disruptive. I'm holding out on IL pulling of a quality half back signing

[quote="headhunter":lnxdgxk2]Union people are idiots. They almost universally accept that league is a better, faster game played by better athletes, yet for some reason they continue to disregard and belittle it. That game is tedious as hell from start to finish. If he'd ever played or even bothered to give more than a fleeting chance to league he would realise that the game is far more 'technical' than Union ever could be. Booting the ball into touch, scrummaging and forming rucks and mauls aren't areas that involve any skill, technique or mental capacity whatsoever. These are clumsy, outdated facets of the game that are also extremely uninteresting to watch and thus have to be defended in some way by people who are too prejudiced to see the truth.[/quote:lnxdgxk2]: |

| For me I'd go with brough.
Gives us the biggest thing we've been lacking for the past few years which is his biggest strength IMO....a w/class kicking game.
I've wanted brough to sign for us right back since his early hull days when I saw the talent in him then....Brough at wigan would also be a perfect opportunity for him - throws him in the limelight where he can show what he can do and be noticed....he would almost inevitably end up starting for England in the world cup next year if he came to wigan, which, however good he is at huddersfield, he may miss out on presently.
Leneghan should be having a word in his ear along these lines IMO....brough to wigan would work for everyone!
6. Finch
7. Brough
9. Mclorum
with Logan, Mellor, & Powell competing for the interchange half/hooker role

| I would take Brough but I think I would rather Dureau he will only be 26 when it comes to the end of the year so we could sew up an important position with a guy in his peak for up to 5 years! Whereas Brough will be 30 at the start of next season so we would probably only be able to bank on him for 2-3 years therefore being in the same position we are now.
But having said that, on the flip side you could say that if we had Brough for 2-3 years then the young guys will be ready to step up when Brough has done his bit. Plus people seem to be making out that hes a terrible guy but we got the best from Gleeson for a couple years and he really was a troubled individual.

Different era's.
In todays super league, brough is one of the top 3 scrum halves.
I rate them in this order
Dureau
Tommy
Brough
Lomax / Myler / dobson / seymour / gower / smith /

That sadly highlights how the quality of half backs in our league have dropped since Kenny's era.

That season we had Kenny and Hull FC had Peter Sterling. The starting HB partnership for Aus at the time. Unless we'd seen Lockyer and Thurston over here at the same time in the last few years it would have to be lower than in 85. Not every HB of that time was great. Of those named Lomax and Myler (though IMO he is a support act and nothing more) are only young and have many years to become better than they are now. Who is to say how they will be thought of by fans looking back in 30 years time.

| If we keep Finch to do the organising in the halves, I'd be happy that Mellor could make the step up.

I'd much rather have Dureau and send mellor out on loan. That is, of course if mellor is prepared to wait. You always have to run the risk of losing youngsters. You must ask yourself would you rather win trophies or have a team of Wigan lads.

Theres no saying we can attract Dureau, if we cant id be happy go with Mellor than throw money at half hearted signing who may or may not work out. Russell looks far away from ready for first team full back so playing Sam in the halves is not an option IMO.

27588.gif "Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.:27588.gif |

| What pees me off is that people say oh Mellor not ready to play first team week in week out. Well when will he be if hes not given at least 10 games this year to play a long spell there? Playing against NW Crusaders ain't gonna do him any good neither is playing at Widnes, a side who are getting spanked every week. If we sign another half, it'll be on at least a 2 year deal which means then Mellor would need to wait that long and again he may not get a chance to show what he can do. He's 22/23 now and really needs to be playing at a good level week in week out or its unfair to the lad

22 in November, i agree he needs game time to see if hes gonna make it with us. But you cant leave Tommy out against the likes of Hull when hes fit. If an injury happens to Tommy or Mickey Mac then he might get his chance until then hes going to have to make do with time at Widnes.

I don't necessarily mean against Hull, that would be silly. In games like that we need to be at full strength. However, sometimes we gotta be realistic and weigh up when our opposition are less of a threat and then put Mellor either in at 7 Tommy on bench or either way round. Otherwise, he'll be thrust in at the deep end next year. I gotta say this year when he has made an appearance he seems to be just going through the motions and playing steady and mainly letting his halfback partner run the show. I'd like him to really take the line on next time he gets a chance.
Interesting, on BBC Radio Manchester's programme on Thursday, Shaun Wane said that he is looking to promote from within and not elsewhere for a halfback. Whether he is just saying that or its true I don't know
