He shouldn't have to instruct them. We can see that Hock tries to offload every time.
Brian McTigue used to tell his backs in his day, "just follow me , you'll get some tries".

Brian McTigue was in a different class to Hock, even though I can see what Hock is trying to do.
The only difference it was very rare that one of Macs short passes to a supporting player failed to pay off. It was either Dave Bolton or Roy Evans who reaped the benifit,Mac knew when to pass and when not to try the impossible.
Fleabag I am surprised that people on here can still talk about Mac,but having seen your photo in your profile I can understand . Cheers. (Are you a man of the cloth by the way)>

| I love watching hock play. I'd put him in above any other 2nd row at Wigan bar none! HH is dependable but hock is unpredictable and that frightens teams. They don't know how to play him. The pens usually come from aggression and that's the backbone of his game. The majority of the time it's controlled but occasionally it's not. I can live with one or two each game for the good he does!

The avatar is indeed me, on a bad day. Man of the cloth ? Well I was an alter boy at St Cuthberts briefly, does that count ?

| Hocks just pure entertainment. Good or bad something is going to happen and our games are all the better with the lad playing.
As for last night I thought he had as many poor moments as good ones but it's not dull. Overall he's having a great year and I love watching him play.

nobody knows what anybody is thinking, if it is a set move then the player who was suppose to receive the ball is at fault, but how is anybody suppose to know when and where Hock is going to offload, if Hock has the ball then isn't it his responsibility to retain possession, offloading the ball to fresh air is nobody's fault than the person who threw it, no matter who the player is, this site is amazing at times, a few years ago you couldn't say a bad word about Lockers, he was untouchable even when her had done wrong, it seems that Hock has now taken over the mantle as the great untouchable, if a player has done wrong then it should be ok to speak of it and btw i hav e no hatred for Hock, i have even had him in my top 3 for a few games this season, my original problem with him was the fact he did what he did and still came away with a shiny new contract, i hope that if the same sort of incident happens again then the offender would be shown the door, imo it will happen again at some point, somebody will be stupid enough and i DON'T mean it will be Hock

Now, now Medlocke! Don't even go there. You, and many others, had plenty bad to say about Lockers. It's just that time, and the fact that he is the quality player many of us said he was, has proven you to be wrong! I'm still keeping my eye on you, you know! (aka Flash)

| Gaz Hock has been one of the most consistent players this season for the Wigan team hes getting better with each game he plays, hes running ability at opposition combined with hes ability to offload balls in the tackle tells me hes the best 2nd row forward in superleague, He plays like an Australians forward with hes offloading skills and this is why the Australians have been hurting us for years because of there offloading game and keeping the ball alive skills, No one over here has the upper body strength to offload like Gas can hes a threat to all opposition and rightly so.
Keep up the good work Gaz.

Incredibly powerful and skilful but is too much of a risk. Gives far too much away to the opposition and I refer to the whole of this season in that, not just last night.
If I had a choice between him and a more reliable, solid 2nd rower like a Harrison Hansen - it would be Hansen all day for me.'"
What a load of tripe!!! Hock terrorizes defences. His off loads are second to none and like someone else said its his team mates that let him down. Any side in the NRL would take Hock before any other.
I cannot think of a better back rower in this competition.

| Edwards would have loved to play with hock. Shaun would have been at the side of him in every drive.
A few brain farts but his class far out ways them.

But what you see with Hansen is what you get. Hardworking "solid" 2nd rower. Outstanding in defence, but little threat in attack. Hansen doesn't have the ability to unlock the best defences in the league. Hansen doesn't have the ability to setup a match winning try in the way Hock does.
In 2010 one of the areas cited for improvement in our squad was in the forwards. Someone who can unlock the best defences in tight matches. Gareth Hock is exactly that player. He did exactly that against Warrington. Sure he made some poor decisions in that match, but under the way Wane coaches that's what you're going to get. He encourages his players to throw the ball around - not something I agree with. Under a more disciplined coach - like Madge - Hock would be one of the best forwards in the world.
I think that every team needs a Harrison Hansen, but every team needs a Gareth Hock too. Hansen and Hock make a nice balance in the 2nd row. Our back three of Hansen, Hock and Lockers is probably the best in the league for me. It certainly has the right balance in terms of defence and attack that I'd want in my side. I wouldn't want a team of Gaz Hock's, but I wouldn't want a team of Hansen's either. We're lucky in the respect we have the best of both. All home produced too.
