27588.gif "Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.:27588.gif |

Rob Burrow is a great player and can change the game in a second from his new hooker position as shown in the GF last year. We can't be so biased that we can't acknowledge him as a great player

Yes far from it indeeed. Makes you wonder how we ever became SL Champions and World Club winners hey.
But what do us Leeds fans know when we have Wigan fans like you who know everything .

Ricky Bibey has lots of winners medals. The number of trophies the team that any given player was in won doesn't necessarily tell the story of how good that player was or is. McGuire is a good support player and a good SL standard player but his record in internationals when he was still deemed good enough to be selected for the team suggests that he is not up to the required standard at international level. If he was we wouldn't be resorting to picking a Kiwi that can't make the NZ side in his position. I have nothing against McGuire but the SKY commentary team are well known for their over the top hype of this player or that player and he is not the only one they IMHO overly inflate the reputation of but they do it to cause debate amongst fans and viewers(and they succeed).
There are many weak international teams amongst the developing RL nations and someone of McGuire's ability would walk into their teams but international class means being able to compete at the pinnacle of the international game and if you are comparing them to the class of player in the Australian and NZ teams then there are very, very few GB (I use this term to mean any British Isles nation) players that would be worthy of being in that bracket, McGuire is not one of those. Another well worn phrase for Eddie & co. is "World Class" where you should be referring to the absolute cream of those truly international class players, the likes of Darren Lockyer, but they spout it regularly. If we had as many world class GB qualified players as they claim over the course of a season the Antipodeans would not stand a chance. We don't though, it's just hyperbole designed to sell the product. The main criticism should be of their over use of such terms and it is a shame that such threads always end up denegrating the players concerned and their level of ability.

| McGuire has often dissapointed on the International stage, but he is the best English stand off we have. Chase is a joke, show pony who does loads of nice flashy things but has very little control of a game. Wasn't impressed by Widdop in the four nations when it got to the crunch either. I liked Tomkins at 6, but he does get to chime in more at full back so I guess you'd leave him there.

| Quote: cherryandwhitedavid06 "They seem to go over the top for half the Leeds team. Fair enough, Rob Burrow and Ryan Hall are great players I agree and are both international class. McGuire, although having a good start to the season so far, hasn't been close to international form for a long time if you consider his rivals for the position e.g Lomax, Chase, Widdop. They also seem to harp on about Kevin Sinfield as he is "Mr Leeds" when he is distinctly average but a good goal kicker. Watkins and Hardaker are the latest in a long line of ones they seem to hype up. Don't get me wrong, I like the look of Watkins (so far) but he hasn't done anything in his career yet to justify the sort of praise and reputation he's currently receiving and Hardaker, well he's just an average youngster.'"
yet all you wigan fans harp on about how awesome Josh Charnley is when the same could/can be said about him, i admit that he has a great future but while Briscoe and Hall are around he will always be third best!

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

| Nice to see that Leeds "Fans", or is that gob$hites, have gotten their voice back after a win. They were very quiet after their recent trip to the DW. Good to see you are all back... Not.... lol

I quite like McGuire, but I have to disagree here and say that Widdop is the best english stand off at present. But I do think that McGuire is better than Chase. IMO Chase id one of those players who does a lot of flashy stuff and side steps which gives the impression he is doing a lot but in actual fact most of the time keeping it simple would achieve the same thing.
