I don't think he actually played in our academy side. Saints picked him up from Hindley after we failed to take him on. One that slipped through the net in my opinion. |

Wasn't he in the Wigan scholarship teams, but signed for Saints? A bit like Liam Carberry the other way round. |

Yeah that's correct about Makinson. Wigan didn't make him an offer and Saints stepped in to pick him up. |

Wigan missed out there. From what I heard 9 of the team Makinson was in were picked up by Wigan. Makinson must have been a late developer I can't see your scouts missing him. |

Personally I've not seen anything in Makinson that suggests we've missed out on anything. He is better than Foster though. Saints' youngsters did a good job last year but it's interesting how they will cope this year when expectations are much higher. I think a few may suffer from second season syndrome.

From what I've seen, the main thing Foster has is his kicking, which he is very good at, but Makinson, as well as being a good kicker, is very quick, doesn't mind getting stuck in, and is getting better defensively.
If we had to take one of them, it would definately be Makinson for me.
