The game was locked at 8-8, when Hanley did one of his weaving runs, and handed the ball to Andy Goodway, who went in under the posts.

As per usual, the Saints fans swore blind the pass was forward (it wasn't) and still do to this day, which makes the win even more sweet.'"

Not a good old glory era game but for me, it's Bradford away 2007.

I remember being resigned to losing and spending most of the first half as well as the start of the second not really facing the game and having a depressed chin wag at the back of the terrace probably discussing the off season.

Then it all happened and I was caught doing a camp little dance on national television. Excellent.

Oh yes it jolly well was icon_biggrin.gifANCE: It was featured on Skys sporting moments, just as EH passed the ball the adverts came on, after 3 or so minutes the match came back on, the pass was so far forward AG still hadn't caught the ball icon_eek.gif

It was 1990, and the score was 14-14 ............ if you can't even get those basic facts correct, how do you expect us to trust your judgement on whether the pass was forward or not.

Fortunately, if you can be bothered to get out your old video tapes (yes, the match was before the invention of dvd, kids ) ; then the pass can be proved to be a forward pass.

In one of the few facts you recalled correctly, the match was at Old Trafford, and the soccer markings were still visible.......... Hanley released the ball about one yard outside the soccer penalty area, and as Goodway caught it, his feet are on the line marking the edge of the box, and the ball is in front of him (i.e. inside the box) .......... hence the ball must have travelled forward.

Momentum rule This was 1990 , when a forward pass was a forward pass ..... and before Stevo changed the rules to allow everyone to act like a NFL quarterback and chuck it miles downfield.

Funnily enough, I watched this match as a neutral, back then I alternated between watching Saints, Wigan and Widnes ........... and as Goodway was my favourite player I was delighted this was awarded. It wasn't until 1993 that I decided to pin my colours to a single team.

No trees were harmed during the creation of this post. However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced. . Saint94 wrote "Every team is in your feckin shadow....we all know." - Amen to that, brother . Saddened! wrote "We've got the worst backline in the competition, bar possibly London and Wakey. I'd swap our 1-7 with Salford in a heartbeat.":123.jpg

It is absolutely conclusive.......

That the ball is passed backward (or at worst "flat"icon_wink.gif in relation to EH's direction of travel.

Stevo twisted the wording to invent "the momentum rule" (it is not called that), but the rule is right there in the RFL's guide to the gamerelative to the player making it and not to the actual path relative to the ground.
A player running towards his opponents’ goal line may throw the ball towards a colleague who is behind him but because of the thrower’s own momentum the ball travels forward relative to the ground.
This is not a forward pass as the thrower has not passed the ball forward in relation to himself.
This is particularly noticeable when a running player makes a high, lobbed pass.'"

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_39110.jpg

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the Leeds play-off from 2003. The 2 Carney long range efforts along with the Tickle drop goal made that very special.
