| Quote: Wigan28/Leeds18 Andy "Even though the "RFL are investigating" if you believe some of the media, the precedent has already been set on this when Briers did it to the Southstand in the one play-off game the Dire have won, was picked up by Sky and even mentioned at the time by Eddie. Of course, nothing happened.
You'd think the Dire fans would remember everything about that game wouldn't you, however it seems to have completely passed most of them frothing at the mouth about it, asking for a ban.
Unsurprisingly, the usual suspects on the Stains Board have forgotten about Kyle Eastmond allegedly gesturing to the stains fans at the Halton Stadium earlier in the season

| Quite a few Wire fans I have spoken to don't think he will get banned as it has happened in the past and not been punished with a ban. Not saying he shouldn't get a ban and neither are they but its harsh to ban Sam when none of the others where banned.

| Let's face it he was silly and with all the Tomkins haters out there wanting blood he could get a ban.
What happened in the past with Briers could mean little as the RFL aren't exactly known for their consistency.

Agree with that and it was incredibly stupid, we cant defend him for what he did. I do think there has been a massive over exaggeration with this though, but that's to be expected when its Tomkins. But is has happened many times in the past and all those went unpunished.

| course it can be defended. You push someone hard enough and they will retaliate. Lets face it, Sam's had a bulls eye painted on his head all through this season, for players and fans a-like. His only saving grace is that he knows we love him. Even then, there's some in our own ranks who dislike him and think he's "not good enough to play for Wigan".
Would anyone have said anything if it wasn't caught on TV? Nope.

| He's heading for a ban if the RFL diciplinary are consistent. This is what they said at a previous hearing : ' Whilst the panel can understand how the provocation implied may lead a person to react in the way in which you did what you must understand is that you are a high profile player in a high profile match and you are a role model to hundreds of youngsters in the game. This was an ugly incident . We therefore cannot overlook this incident.'

This bit should end all the hysteria There is no danger of Tomkins being hauled up before the weekly disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, as this will be a matter for the RFL's compliance department because it involves a possible breach of the Respect Code of Conduct – which requires players to show "respect for officials, for each other and for the spectators whose hard-earned money makes it all possible".
Such investigations tend to be lengthy, ruling out the possibility that the 22-year-old could be suspended for the Super League match at Warrington next Sunday, the winners of which will almost certainly secure the League Leaders' Shield for finishing top of the table. A modest fine after a hearing this autumn when the fuss has died down seems much more likely but even that will infuriate Wigan's players and supporters, who will point to the abuse their star man receives on a weekly basis, most notoriously when he was booed when playing for England in Leeds against the Exiles in June.'"
