| Quote: Odemwingie "He must be the most talented coach Wigan have had. To turn them round so quickly is sensational. This time last year we had won nothing for years. We now currently hold all 3 British trophies at the same time.'"
But does that mean he's had the biggest impact on super league?
Maybe some fans are still on a massive high of winning the cc and still posting based on that.
Don't get me wrong, MM is a top class coach and I like the bloke. I'd have him at saints without a shadow of a doubt (swap you for Royce? ) but to say he's the best coach in the world and to say he's the best coach to happen to super league IMO is a little ott.

| In regards to Madge versus Millward. Madge is now returning to the NRL to a head coaching position, something Millward was never able to achieve without getting it by default and then failing miserably at it.
Personally I think Madge is the best coach to grace SL and as debatable as that maybe, if he manages to turn around South Sydney like he did Wigan. Then it will for me go along way to proving he's the best coach SL's ever had. We shall wait and see.

Lack of ambition?
Easier to stay at Saints where the going was good rather than really test himself?
Don't get me wrong I'm sad Madge is leaving, but perhaps he's taken us as far as he feels he can. He's brought us back to the top in the process winning every domestic trophy on offer. And now wants to test himself in biggest and toughest comp in the world. Credit to the guy!

Maybe he's not good enough now but at the time he was. Milkweeds problem was he got to big for his boots and thought he was bigger than the club.

| If anyone wants to compare Milward to Maguire then just look at them now. 1 got headhunted and was 2nd choice after Bennett for South's headcoach position. The other is in Leigh.
Milward did well at Saints but at Wigan he turned a potential GF side into a relegation standard. Noble came in and by the end we looked like a side that could go to the GF. But Agent Milward had done his Saints duty and destroyed a decent side. If Maguire fails in the NRL then i bet he will get into SL very quickly. Milward will not get into SL again.

| Quote: MDW12 "So you're saying Ian Millward is a better coach than Michael Maguire? I think you will even struggle to find other st helens fans that will agree with you on that one.'"
Millward and Maguire are two opposite styles. Millward was a superb attacking coach and his philosophy was that so long as we scored more points than the other team, that is all that counts (as we would win). Maguire is all about crushing the opposition's attack with defence. Millward encouraged his players to play freely, he let them do their own thing a lot which is why Longy liked him as Longy was a very creative player. Maguire is all about control and structures (which, when challenged, do leave your team in dissaray). Both have had big impacts on their team but in vastly different ways. Both had teams who won silverware, in Millward's case that included the double. I'd throw Daniel Anderson in there as well because he tweaked our defence and had an impact that as yet was greater than Maguire's. He turned a team that was just on the edge of greatness into a team that achieved the ultimate greatness - they won everything there was to win.
Maguire is a good coach. He's had an immediate impact, like Anderson, because your team just needed a slight adjustment to succeed. As did ours under both Millward and Anderson. The contexts were no different for all three coaches but the style of those adjustments have been very different.

Millward is in Leigh because he has children there.
But he has taken Leigh to a final which they won and had the club not been docked 6 points for a breach of cap in 2010 they would have still been in first spot, which they had been all season until that stupid punishment was handed out.

| Personally I think Madge is far a better coach than Millward. Saints best coach over the recent years has been Daniel Anderson for me. He had a similar defensive strategy to madge and also kept their attacking flair. Still feel Madge will be one of the best in the world though! Still got a long way to go and dont forget he's only been a head coach for a year and a half!
