39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| I have a mate who works in a highways (not in wigan)... they get paid thousands to sit in a room and mess around with the layout of a juntion. They should just keep it as simple as possible.

| Wigan is awful for driving around. I was once in a traffic jam from Caroline Street (not that that is unusual) all the way to Abraham Guest school. The cause of the problem, a lollypop lady.

The bus garage is closing at the end of next week & Wigan MBC take over the site week commencing Mon 4th July.
I travel to work through the Saddle from Ashton & must admit that the traffic congestion on approach to the Saddle has improved since the road remodelling but it will be interesting to see what it's like on a match day when the majority of traffic needs to turn left towards the DW ??

| Useless, try crossing 2 lanes of flowing traffic in a van which has obscured visibility due to it being a van. It really is a case of left indicator on turn and hope for the best & I WORK FOR THE USELESS WMBC.

| Quote: Arthur Warrior "The alterations seem to have worked from my experience. There used to be long queues to get through the junction at ATS, with queues on match days going all the way back to Goose Green Labour Club and beyond. Those queues seem to have now vanished with the removal of one set of lights and merging the roads and altering the sequence of the lights. Crossing lanes is not ideal but its less frustrating than queing up for 15 mins to get through the lights.'"
I've noticed that myself... However, I'm not convinced that it's because of the new layout. I think it's partly down to the fact that most people are avoiding it and going down Poolstock lane instead, as that route has gone noticeably busier.

| Quote: Morning Glory "I think massive congratulations are in order for the Metro road planners because after another load of 'improvement' work at the Saddle junction they've managed to make it worse again, if that was humanly possible. I'm talking about the approach on the A49 Wigan Rd from Ashton through Goose Green etc and in particular the now merging junction just outside the ATS place. The road from Pemberton on the left used to be traffic light controlled now both roads merge into a two lane road through the lights at the pub. The result, anyone on the main A49 wanting turn left at the fire station to get to Robin Park, the DW or Martland Park has to cross two lanes on the left, then cross a cycle lane. A recipe for accidents and the natural flow takes trafic away from the DW, its a nightmare for locals now for away fans it'll be worse. Its worth driving through just for the comedy value! Wigan must have the worst traffic planning system in the UK, its just awful.'"
I've been wondering if anyone else has noticed this? I keep wondering if it's going to change but when you're coming along Warrington Road and heading to the cinema, it doesn't seem to make sense to have to try and barge into the left lane now or just stop and wait for someone to let you in. If there's no traffic from Pem it's fine but otherwise it's a nightmare.

| I was very sceptical about the work being done at the Saddle but I've found that the traffic now flows much, much better towards Wigan whereas normally you'd be crawling from Goose Green onwards. The lane switching to go to Robin Park is indeed a pain though.

| Not a clue why they want to build that new road through the bus depot.
Bottleneck Bridge has a load of land at the side of it, which is simply grassed over. It can't be THAT hard to close the railway line for six months whilst they demolish that bridge and build a wider one. There's more than enough room to accommodate two lanes each way.
And whilst they're at it, they need to reinstate both lanes between Seven Stars and Gordon Ford, and on Pottery Road.

| I drive through Saddle every morning. The new layout is terrible. I believe that there will be loads of accidents when people try to cut across to turn left towards DW / Beech Hill.

| I live near Saddle and its a major pain in the backside. I came from up Ashton way and I have to turn just after the Queen's Arm's pub, first time I came down I missed the turning due to not knowing the layout of the road. It's useless!

| So, we've had a problem at Saddle for about 100 years.
We've also had a Labour MP and Labour dominated council for the same amount of time.
It must be the fault of the Tories then .........
