Considering they'd already signed Hodgson, and Mathers didn't want to be playnig 2nd fiddle to someone, yes.
Tony Smith isn't stupid, hence why he brought in a top Full Back when he had Mathers at his club. |

He also threw the pass to Cudjoe that put you out of the playoffs.
He was phenomenal in that Final, but he's not the type of player that puts in those performances on a consistent basis. Got nothing against the man, as he's fantastically good entertainment when it rains. |
