Quote: I Love Gimp Masks "How can you say he's awful? Had he not suffered an injury last year he'd of been close contender for MOS, simple as - At the moment I can't see any place for him in the Wigan side, which is a shame, because he's a good player.'"

Agree with this. He was the best player last year until get got injured.

Quite simply he's not performed in over a year.

8 games in 2.5 years is not good enough and for me he's been a failure.

It's how good he was in those games at the start of last season that makes the rest of his time here so frustrating. He produced a couple of months worth of unbelievable performances that were amougst some of the best I've seen from anybody in a Wigan shirt but outside of that he's been very average.

If things don't improve you'd have to say we'd be very lucky if we could get rid at the end of the season. To have his sort of salary cap space to play with would be very handy but I can't see an NRL team touching him and Roberts isn't just going to quit a good contract.

Maybe the hope is he gets on better with Wane then Maguire!

Release him at the end of the year, without doubt, free's up a quota space and frankly, he isnt worth a spot in the team, regardless of that try versus Warrington last year.

Good post.

I doubt anyone doesn't wish Amos would find that magic touch again. As you said he was that good but would you give him a chance to get back in the side?

As AJ has said we should try to move him on at the end of the year.

Wasted spot and quota space.

If Roberts is a confidence player he will need games to get that confidence back. He isnt going to get a game in a team thats doing well just so he can get his confidence back though is he?

This leaves us with a bit of a dilemma. We cant just release him as people have said as it will cost a fair few quid.

I have defended Roberts plenty of times and think that when on form he is the best full back at the club. However as things stand, and if he doesnt improve drastically over the remainder of the season, then the club should do their best to get rid of him at the end of the season. A good 2/3 month spell over the course of 3 seasons just isnt good enough, especially for an expensive import.

I just can't understand how he can have gone from being the 2nd most exciting attacking player at the club to a player with no future (it would seem). Very sad to see.

Watched the season review DVD last night from 2010 for the first time and Roberts form was crazy up until his injury. He was on fire and some of the things he came up with were breathtaking! The highlights of the Cas away game are just clip after clip of magic moments from him and it makes you hope and pray we could get that same form back.

As I said earlier I think the only hope on that score is that he gets on better with Wane then he does with Maguire. I don't say that because I know for a fact he has problems with Maguire but more if that isn't the case them there seems no hope of a repeat.

It wasn't long ago that he was a contender for that role.

I don't know what point you're trying to make here.

You've seen his astonishing downturn in form for yourself.

All in all it's just terribly sad. We would all love the idea of an 'on fire' Amos at FB with Sam as a second reciever at 6. Our attack would have so much strike it would be untrue.

However I feel Amos has to be treated like any other player, he must prove his worth in the reserves. Quite frankly from what I've seen (maybe it's due to injury or lack of confidence) he even isn't standing out at that level. To be honest he looks disinterested. Until this improves he must stay where he is, demonstrates the good level of comp we have at our club.

My first point is roberts has never done enough to warrant been even talked about as the best fullback in the game. Defo not 12 good games in sl and looking good against a crap Cas team?

My second point is 12 good games have clouded some Wigan fans opinion of him! He has given Wigan a poor return for his place in the squad! He's defo gonna be one of the better paid players! first season he was average to crap, second season a dozen good games and then crap! This season can't catch a bomb and can't get a game. Poor import. Other imports have totally out played and out shined Roberts and have given a much better return on their respective clubs investments: Brent Webb, Scott Donald, Clint greenshields, mick monahan, pat Richards and tommy to name a few.

And it's really cost us, hasn't it.

If I were you, I'd just count my blessings that his top form was so short-lived.

Whatever you think, Roberts was the stand-out player in the competition at the start of last season. It wasn't just Cas he did it against, it was Warrington, Hull KR and Saints as well. Given the form the rest of the team showed in 2010, you guys were quite fortunate that he was so severely injured when he was.

Just read your post to yourself mate. It's so defensive? "Just count your blessings" ?

I couldn't give a chuff who lines up infront of my team or any other! I'm talking rl. I can totally take my Leeds hat off as just a Rugby fan. I'm a neutral every weekend now.

I agree roberts was awesome for a few month but has been a poor import. I know he did it against more than Cas. A dozen good games in 2 and a half seasons is pi$$ poor. Wigan deserve better. As I said Roberts has been totally outshined by plenty of his contemporaries across sl.
