Hard to split these three at this stage, and not unexpectedly fans believe their own guy just has the edge.

If they carry on their current form through the season, any of the three would be a worth winner of MOS.

Sam is the best player in SL, whether or not he wins the MoS. There seems to be a hate campaign against him in certain quarters though, which could seriously harm his chances, but he is the best player in SL.

Tomkins is quality, but there is no hate campaign, just fans of other clubs who don't like class players who are a bit annoying (see - briers, goulding, bishop, offiah etc). However, as a neutral wire fan i would have to say that roby is currently the best player in SL.

I generally judge the best player by whether I would swap ours for theirs. No disrespect to Roby, but there isn't a player in SL I'd straight swap for Sam Tomkins at the mo.

Tomkins is far superior to Roby. In fact, I would not mind Sam moving to the NRL to try his hand at the premier RL comp in the world.

Nobody is denying tomkins' ability, it is all about opinions. But to say any player in SL is FAR superior to roby is just not right. If you picked a SL dream team they would both be in it, but the most important position these days is the hooker and roby is just different class at what he does.

Just check the stats between them. Someone is far superior than the other but I think you've got it wrong way round.

Hooker as opposed to halfback? I do not think so. Look over the past 10 years and see who the world's best players have been. They have been half backs or hookers, with the clear edge going for halves.

As good as Tomkins is, i dont think he would really make it in Australia. I know im proberly going to get my head chewed off but it's my honest opinion. Infact i think its safe to say i doubt ANY British back could make it in the NRL.

Stats mean very little in the final assessment.

Given the right team and enough time, I think Tomkins would flourish. He is not going to be an Andrew Johns or Lockyer type talent, but a solid and impressive back nonetheless.
