| Interesting this has been mentioned.
I remember thinking at the time that they didn't look anything like soldiers. Plus, they were accosting people and actually asking them for donations, which I'm pretty sure collectors for charities are not allowed to do.
That said, I only didn't give because I didn't have any change.

You're correct I've done collections for Alder Hey in the past and we were given strict instructions to just stand there and only speak to them to thank them or if they ask questions.
I'm not sure they were fake though. We had this when we were doing our collection (went round pubs in Newton) and we only had the letter of authorisation (on headed watermarked Alder Hey paper) and people kept telling us it was fake because we didnt all have a photo id cards. Do they not realise that printing such things and the lanyards etc could mean that more is spent than is collected?
I dont remember them but a dead giveaway would be the buckets they used. They're usually obliged to use a certain bucket with this lid on that secures with a special seal that is voided if removed. If they didnt have that then chances are they were fake and theyre the lowest of all scum. I hope they werent fake though because, as I've mentioned before, my friend had his leg shattered by an Afghan sniper and that money that help for heroes collect goes to good places and I would hate to see their name taken advantage of in this way.

| I hope the club come forward and either confirm or dismiss these rumours because they could be damaging to future collections.

| I don’t think they were fake the steward’s were talking to them when I walked past and moved them as they need permission to collect there from the club, there was kids collecting for armature rugby club behind them (they must have had permission for that game). They told the 2 chaps to go up to Canal Bridge as was not stadium grounds. They looked genuine to me they have yellow sealed buckets and blue t-shirts with the charity on it

| I thought straight away they didnt look right because of the stuff they were saying to get you to donate. A few people not on here mentioned them at work yesterday too.

Not sure if the ones i walked past are the same that you are referring to but the reason that i didnt donate was exacly the same.
We walked over the bridge and there was a guy in full army uniform with a berrett on shouting out at people to give gerousley to the british army - its was more the way he said it than what he said.
I think there may of been a kid with him too but i cant remember - they were shaking yellow buckets as people walked down the steps of the bridge.
I only usually ever give money to the amateur clubs because they are always polite.

Yeh sounds like the same guys i walked past. By the time i walked down they was over the canal (not the stadium side) and shouting the weirdest things, 'dont let our heroes down' and like you say in the tone they were speaking. If they turn out to be genuine then they need to improve their selling techniques. I wouldnt advise a career in cold calling.

| It's very rare that Soldiers would be out collecting in uniform, and if they were, I seriously doubt they would be barracking people for money. It's normally done to help out another organisation such as the Legion or SSAFA, and even then, they would probably wear high vis vests etc... If they were real, I'd expect them to be the local battallion, so Duke of Lancasters Regiment, and if they were, their head dress should have looked like thishttps://www.blightymedals.co.uk/ekmps/shops/blightymedals/images/-sold-duke-of-lancaster-s-regiment-beret-and-badge.-310-p.jpg" >

| If true its shcoking that people would do this, but i noticed that they where abit dodgey, walking around asking loudly for donations. Thats exactly the reason i gave my money to the quiet young lads for the amateur club.

i gave a couple of quid to the two soldiers on the concourse side of the ground. They seemed genuine with sealed buckets, they where not shouting anything or rattling the buckets. They gave me a wristband. www.veteransinaction.org.uk
If they where fake they are the sickest of the sick.
