Games as big as Grand Finals define individuals and clubs. Remember, we only rent these journeys. In my time I had Pat Richard's shirt. Ellery Hanley had Sean O'Loughlin's jersey. Sam Tomkins is wearing Radders' number one jersey. Andy Coley is wearing Shaun Wayne's jersey. You have to make a mark in these shirts before you hand it down to someone else. Hand it back. So be aware for 80 minutes that you are not only playing, but you are also writing history and creating legacy. How many people actually write history - not many? A big stage demands big players…..INSPIRE YOUR TEAM MATES.

That Cas game was my first game watching Wigan. Proof that I'm definitely NOT a JCL or a glory hunter, as we were really quite sh11te then! |

It's true. Maurice learned a lesson from that day in 1983 and from then on Wigan went up and Leigh went the other way (I don't think Leigh have beaten us since 83). Luckily Varley was nothing special at Leigh. |

I think there was everything but an official announcement.
Lots of media specualtion fuelled by Gasnier's wage demands at St.George and our chairmans activities in Australia.
Then we officially announced the signing of DV - i believe 'Wigan add Kiwi Polish' was the headline in the Observor. |

Iron Man Davies 1965ish was a headline grabbing signing from Welsh RU. He played 1 game. Rumour had it that we had confused him with John Mantle, who played in the same game that our scouting team watched, and who went on to become an all time great with Saints.

Can't remember which newspaper but im sure it was either the Observor or the WEP that printed a picture of Andrew Johns when it was in fact Mathew Johns who we had signed from Newcastle.
