for gods sake, lets just put this one to bed,
the club is called wigan warriors, it has been for years, ok it was something else before that, but warriors is what it is now, so deal with it!
just becasue a few people hate it strongly, does not mean that we should get rid of it,
warriors is a branding, it is more famous than the wigan rlfc, it is all about marketing.
and yeah i do remember the times when we where just wigan rlfc. so no1 can use the argument that i did not see that era.
just be happy that we have finaly got back to where we belong.
wish every1 would stop moaning about thing they have no control over, and when we have won the championship!
BE HAPPY AND ENJOY THAT WE ARE AT THE TOP OF THE GAME!!!!!

Not to me we won't. We are Wigan RL, I will have no truck with this "Warriors" nonsense. The team are not "Warriors" they are professional rugby players. Hull FC told them where to go, we should do the same.
IL can call the team what he likes, the fact is he is merely the temporary custodian of the club. He cannot change it's history or the views of it's supporters. |

IL did ask for a show of hands on the Warriors name at the very first fans forum and it was a 50
I remember that show of hands at the very first forum and I also was surprised. IL agreed he also didn't like the Warrior name and was prepared to drop it but as the show of hands was 50:50 he left it.
Its like they say 'it's what your used to' it will always be Wigan RL to me as that's what I was brought up with but the rebranding with SL named us Warriors and for the kids its great I guess.
If there was major rebranding again now everyone would complain and those liking Warriors would want it changing back.

That's correct it was 50:50, and I was as surprised as IL.
Personally I would get rid of the Warriors tag, but it seems to be getting used / liked by the younger fans so I guess it's staying.
No big deal really, but it's still Wigan RL to me.

There's no law says we have to have it. Saints and Hull, and even London now, don't have Americanised nicknames.
But they do differentiate RL teams from any other. If you hear a snippet of news or radio report about the Harlequins, or Bradford, or Huddersfield, you can't be certain which sport they are talking about, and 'Warriors' is certainly a tag which separates us from the wendyballers.

But not RU. If I read a headline about the "Warriors" I don't know if it's Worcester or Wigan. |
