| Quote: Cruncher "Rumours have been knocking around in club circles for a while that McLennan wasn't quite the coach the Leeds fans seemed to think.
Leeds had plenty of success under him, but then so did Wigan under John Dorahy, who was patently useless, and Graeme West, who, though everyone liked him, was never seen as a great innovator or strategist.
A well-oiled machine can run itself for a couple of years, but eventually starts to break down. I think that partly explains Leeds in 2010.'"
Hits the nail on the head.
Some would disagree, but for me McClennan never got the best out of his players, and didn't seem particularly astute tactically. We were a much better team on paper in 2010 than on the field with persistent indiscipline.
Not sorry to see him go personally, looking forward to what McDermott will bring.

| Odd one that, fancy Leeds appointing a head coach from the bottom of the table club and suggesting he's what they want!

Particularly when most coaches who've won anything recently have come from the NRL, Leeds chances off success under McDermott don't look that great.
Sure is going to be interesting to see how Leeds go though. We've benefited from Maguire's cutting edge knowledge brought over from the NRL to get ahead of the game. Leeds with Brian in charge won't have that boost next year that we and Saints will.

| The whole story stinks a bit if you ask me. I'll give McDermott about 3 months before he's sacked...

I think we have to be fair and admit that McDermott has been hamstrung at Harlequins by lack of funds and lack of players. However, though he's undoubtedly a top bloke, he's never struck me as being a great intellect of the game.
It would be good if it worked out for him, but I'm not convinced by this appointment. Passion from the big guy will certainly get Leeds some distance, but if Wigan had announced that Madge was going home for 2011 and that McDermott was replacing him, I would have been too disappointed for words.

A bit harsh not even giving him time for one league game!

Id have been mortified if he had replaced nobby nevermind madge!
A completely uninspiring appointment from a fans point of view.

| McClennan wasn't the most popular person amongst the players and coaches over the last year or so at Leeds, and if you believe the rumours he was the reason Cummins and Poching chose to leave. McDermott was always going to be coach after McClennan left at the end of next season anyway. He's very highly rated by GH and the Leeds players from the work he did as Tony Smith's assistant. It's a gamble, but we've still got a decent squad and some cap space so its not the end of the world as some are suggesting.

Any word on who'll be assisting McDermott next year?

Can't see him going to being a No2 after 10 years as a Head Coach.
