| Not exactly a rumour is it, its just a few folk on CL chatting about it.
Obviously if they get relegated their crowds would dip further, how much remains to be seen.

Just looks like a few [i'bandwagoners'/'I've followed Latics all my life, honest I have!'[/is' having a panic attack to be honest.
Does make me chuckle though, as the accusation often thrown at [ius[/i is that the vast majority of our supporters come from outside the town (ie Bolton, Chorley). Oh the irony.

So, could we maintain the place as an RL-only stadium?

That is something only Mr Lenaghan and the people incharge of the club's finances could know. As far as I can see the position of tenant is for us for the time being, but I'd imagine it hampers us in terms of making money.

| Even if the'tics get relegated they still have to play in an all seater stadium as far as I know when in the Championship.
Champ 1 and they can have standing areas.
Best for them is if they move to Widnes when Saints move out, that's an all seater and they would probably get a fair few watching them being not too far from Liverpool.

| Quote: MattyB "From the very first Fans Forum at the Deanery, Ian Lenagan envisaged 20k averages within 5-6 years, at the time I thought that was optimistic to say the least...!!
Wigan RL
2010 - Average - 15,650
2011 - Average - 17,200
2012 - Average - 18,750
2013 - Average - 20,000'"
We rely on away fans to crack the 20k barrier. If every home seat was sold i think that would come to 19,500. Less than 500 away fans means we wouldn'tt 20k even if we sold every home seat!
Crusaders, Quins, Hudds out. Widnes, Halifax, Barrow, Leigh in.
That would increase our average significently.

2011 - Average - 17,200
2012 - Average - 18,750
2013 - Average - 20,000'"
I think those figures a very optimistic. In a town the size of Wigan I can't see us getting an average of 20,000 throught the gates. One thing I thin k we should eb looking at is welcoming anyone who shows an interest and encouraging any disgruntled Latics 'fans'. The attitude of many Latics 'fans' turned many Wiganers off the football and, it could be argued, has played a part in their troubles.

Couldnt they build a ground somewhere in Skem?

Not many people are bothered about Latics in Wigan, only 9,000 home fans on Saturday against one of the top 5 sides in European football suggests that.
They could be a lot stronger if they moved to Widnes or St Helens, but those towns are hardly steeped in football tradition.

Think that could be perfect for them, the closer to Skem you get, the more blue and white Latics rs appear. You'll notice from now on.

We're just short of 16k average for this year, we were at 16k for the 2007 season when we were a poor / average team. Surely we should be able to attract a few thousand on top of what we have now if we start winning pots!
We currently have better averages now than our best average when we were world beaters, surely that counts for something??!! (14,680 in 1993-94)
We should attract 18k by right, just by being successful...the rest is up to IL & Co attracting folk in from the Manchester Area's he was talking about last year.

I agree.
Home support has never been the problem for us. Its the lack of away fans thats the real issue in hitting 20K+.
Wire. Leeds. Saints & HKR seem to be the only ones that regularly bring over a decent crowd. Hull FC - Now and again.
The Bulls and Cas used to, so its to be hoped they can both reclaim their 'lost' supporters over the next couple of years.
If we had anything like Prem football away support, i think we'd be over 20K every single home game!
Oh, and New Central Park?
Been calling it that since we left Central Park (RIP).

We averaged 30,000 plus in the 40s/50s/60s

| Although we may not like it, it's vital that we have a strong Stains & Wire team to bring good support. The Bulls have faded, Leeds in average, the Hulls teams are okay, the rest.....well......

Hull KR brought a smaller(for them) following than usual thsi year but the game was on TV so to be expected. I've always though Leeds away crowds have been disappointing given the size of the city.
Saints - 5,000
Wire - 5,000
Hull/Hull KR - 3,000
Leeds - 2,000
