Do I mind them? In moderation, no.
As ABP' says, we probably could manage with one drum and one decent drummer who knows when and how to play* it.

A decent drummer would play the drum. The boozed-up ankle-biters in the South Stand, however, just seem to just whack their drum as hard as they can whenever they feel like it

| One drum in the east and south stands should be ok as long as the people with the drum actually know how to play it and can keep time. Using it to strike up a chant helps the atmosphere.
I sit in the east stand and without a drum the atmosphere is very flat, it's pretty much silent all game. With a drum used in moderation the fans generally get behind it and it sounds much better.
However during the Widnes away game I was sat in one of the corners and the drumming was a appalling. A mildly intelligent ape could have been handed the drum despite never seeing one before and would have worked out how to make a better sound within 5 minutes.
Constantly whacking the drum over and over again to a repetitive chant is annoying, dull and does nothing for the atmosphere but as long as someone knows how to use the drum then it can really help.

| I reckon the club should allocate one drummer and have them as the only drummer. It has been proved time and time again when we've had no drum that we can create an atmosphere.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| For home games we need one in each stand both being people who can play them. The atmosphere will never be good at home anyway!
Away games I don't mind.

Happy time...: |
|
| Use one, played by someone who knows how to. Use it to get a song/chant/wahtever going then pack it in. Once something is going theres no need to keep banging it.
The one at Widnes annoyed me, constant drone, I nearly shoved it up his .

For the best way to
Get to Wigan Games!
LIGHT TRAVELS FASTER THAN SOUND.
THAT IS WHY SOME PEOPLE LOOK BRIGHT TILL YOU HEAR THEM SPEAK!: |
|
| Don't panic.
So long as he brings TWO decent sticks I'll have a few giraffes in France and come out of retirment to show them how it's done Properly!
It's the fact that there are
a. Too many
b. They can't play them
that is the problem more than anything else.
Now and again and it gets people going, the constant thump thu
p thump just gets on everyone nerves.
What amazes me is how you can have a drum for ages yet never ever improve?

| Get rid of it IMO. I'm a drummer, but that constant banging isn't drumming; anyone could do that and it clearly shows.

| For me all the drummers can bugger off down the north end of the east stand and go and annoy the away fans (when they bother to turn up)

123.jpg No trees were harmed during the creation of this post.
However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

| The trouble is, we have a whole bunch of pïssed up little scrotes with drums, who couldn't hold a beat in a bucket.
What we need IMO is 1 drum in each stand (South and East), but ONLY if Binder plays one and we can tempt Smurf out of retirement for the other.
I've nearly been smashed in the face by Binder more times than I care to remember (particularly at Leeds for some reason), but at least he can hold a beat.
Smurf was the "original" drummer as I recall and was also rather good at it.
As for the others, they should have the drums confiscated as they walk in, on the grounds of noise pollution - They offer little (if anything) else.

| Absolutely awful things. They stifle atmosphere. They don't create it. The drummers seem hell bent on playing the same God awful boring tunes all the time (the Vindaloo or Barmy Army tunes). They are counter productive, as witnessed at the recent Quins game where I remain convinced they played a part in a steady fightback by Quins. That song that night didn't encourage the home team, it encouraged an away team who were building a 2nd half rhythm. Which demonstates that not only are the drums a bad thing but the drummers themselves are total s.
They even try to destroy some half decent songs like 'Greatest Club in the world' & 'By far the greatest team' both of which require no such drum assistance.
They are murdering the atmosphere home and away.

| always wondered this:
what are folks thoughts/feelings on the 'band' at Leeds in the South Stand?
What would you make of it if a trumpet (and such instruments) where to arrive at the DW on match day?
Dont worry, i'm not testing the water in hope of bringing an instrument
