| Should be a leader for the forwards and a leader for the backs of which one of those should be the nominated matchday captain, preferably on a rota basis.

| As long as one of them is firing the players up under the sticks like Faz used to do and others are leading by example then I don't think it really matters.

A rota wouldn't work. It should be the best man for the job at any given time.

Hopefully they won't be "under the sticks" too often this term!

Maguire also says everyone bar Bailey is fit at the moment, so the rumours about KP and MickMac look unfounded.

| [i"Loose forward Sean O'Loughlin – who has been Wigan's captain for the past four years – will be among the group, and has backed the radical change."[/i
so does this mean that Lockers has known all along how gash he has been as captain, makes sense to me

How does that say that O'Loughlin admits he's been a bad captain?

From that interview it sounds as though the idea has been well received throughout the team. The fact that the 5 have been chosen by the whole squad too is also a good move.

| I think it just reaffirms what a few people have been saying in that as fans we build up the captain’s role into something more important than what it really is.
At the end of the day no one man can do it alone and leadership in the modern day game has to be shared. What’s the difference in naming Lockers as the sole captain but yet he still shares the role with other senior players compared to naming 5 senior captains? Do we honestly think Lockers does it all on his own?
All the top teams in years gone by have had a number of leaders at the club who I’m 100% sure played just a big of a role as the people who were named ‘captain’. For example do you think Peacock or Robbie Paul weren’t on equal footing with Lowes at Bradford? What about when KC/Scully or Martyn when Joynt was captain at Saints? What about Lam/Dallas/Furner/Renouf when Faz was at Wigan?
What does the captain actually do?
Picks heads or tails before a match? Liaises with the ref during the match and sends the refs words back to the team? B0llocks the players under the sticks (when did Lockers last do that btw?). Decides if he’s gonna go for 2 or not (I’m sure this comes from the stands as well?)
It’s not that big of an announcement really. It just confirms the set up we already knew was in place at the club and others in SL.

I'd agree with that, although Richards may be in there above one of the others.
Personally I like it, the fact that we don't have a big personality in the team like cruncher says make's me think that this is the best option available.
The club really is receiving a change from top to bottom, and I think most of us agree it's what was needed for a long time. Hopefully this rejuvenation can springboard us back to somewhere near the top.

Think you need to watch the interview. Maguire says O'Loughlin could have kept the captaincy.

It would be very interesting to find out who the new 'gang of five' are wouldn't it. It could realistically be out of a number of players;
Lockers
Fielden
Richards
Tommy
Carmont
Gleeson
Bailey
All could easily get into that five.

| Smacks of someone trying to be too clever for their own good. The captain should be one man only as the figurehead and then everyone else should have the opportunity to air their views anyway. The majority of us have all been part of some team or other and if you're afraid to voice your opinion then you shouldn't be in a team environment.
I've been all for the changes made and it's been great to read and hear positve news coming from the club but this just a rubbish idea. Is it supposed to 'make' leaders out of nothing when the one thing we have lacked for a while is leadership, in which this is essentially the same group of players?

| well i certainly think its a big change. Lockers wont get as much stick as he has done in the past, which is a good thing. Will be interesting who the team and coaching staff pick as the other 4 .
