| Quote: cadoo "He certainly seems an obvious appointment.
Having people like Shaun Wane, Kris Radlinski and Michael MaGuire with tough attitudes and strong opinions about how the game should be played can only be a good thing for the club. It creates that special aura around the place that we so obviously lack or have been lacking & this must be maintained right throughout the levels from the First team to Academy team for it to work. So these two appointments are crucial to maintain that standard.'"
Spot on. Radderz speaks about it in his book. Players must be taught more than just to turn up at training and go home again. There is going to be massive changes in this club this year and it may not be effective straight away but it will in the long run!
I am chuffed that Radlinski is going to be involved at our club. I think we need as many past players as possible involved. As long as its not Moran.. and players like that
Radlinski
Lam
Farrell
Wane
That'll do me

Like you I like having past players involved with our club. I think it's because you feel that they understand what it is like to play for Wigan and they have a connection with the fans from their playing days.
But we must rule with our head rather than our hearts and appoint the best people for the job. Regardless of whether they played for Wigan or not.

Thats why I said I wouldn't pick Moran (although is a bad example) I am making the point that some people will cut it and some won't. I am sure there are very very good players even legends who just wouldn't be good coaches.
The past players named IMO will do a good job.

I agree, and this appointment looks to be an excellent application of that logic. Preparing teams for the rigours of SL is a clearly a science. While having old soldiers around to offer encouragement and inspiration is a great thing, bringing advanced knowledge into the scheme is also to be welcomed.

Thats why MaGuire and Wane is such a good combo.

Totally agree, the days are gone where a player is flogged in pre season doing monotonous exercises and then is thought to be off the required standard.
The birth of sports science has put a stop to that in favor of a more professional and scientific orientated outlook on conditioning and health.
I believe that Huddersfield under Nathan Brown have taken a big step forward in the area of applying sports science to there training methods and rightly so, it's certainly benefited them.
I'm interested to hear like others if jonh has any knowledge of the guy.

I totally agree with the appointments made by Ian Lenagan and I know you knew I was just making the point.

In hospital with my young lad and his ropey liver sadly.
This has made me a little more upbeat though i have to say. Final piece of the jigsaw for me. With this appoitment i see no reason why we should not challenge for honours
I am aware of him and his methods and extrenly impressed with what i have seen and heard, although never knew hw was a wiganer
I did nit go fir his job either Jtb, so he is all good with me lol.
What i do like is the fact he will be familliar with Pryce and has bags of experience working with big athletes.
Sorry if this post is a mess typing it off my phone cant check it..
I am aware of him and his methods

Agreed with both you and Cruncher. So far the appointments made, you have to say, look like excellent appointments. I appreciate we will only be able to say so once the season commences and these guys are put into action but in each case I struggle to find someone else more suitable for each position, that is also available. Especially in this instance, as for a Rugby League Strength and Conditioning coach, will there be many (certainly in Super League) who have the qualifications, the reputation (from an article posted earlier in the thread) and the nine years expertise at the highest level in numerous other sports? I highly doubt it and I could apply the same logic to Michael MaGuire and Shaun Wane.

| Seems like the guy has all the experience we’ve been asking for. He’s certainly worked with some top RU teams and gained valuable knowledge in football and the NFL. I wonder if he was at Bolton when big Sam was there as Sam was known for experimenting with new fitness regimes and thinking outside of the box.
