| I'd like to see this system
Week 1:
Game 1 - 2nd v 5th
Game 2 - 3rd v 4th
Week 2:
Game 3 - Winner G1 v Winner G2 (highest ranked team at home)
Final:
1st v Winner G3
It means you have to finish highish to have a chance, no one can lose a play off game and still win the trophy, it's a big advantage to finish top, no two teams play twice and it's simple. Sadly it'd mean us travelling to either Saints or Leeds and probably getting knocked straight out but I don't think finishing 5th should give you anything like an easy run.

That makes too much sense for the rfl, too easy and not complicated enough for everyone.
Basically thats why some people see superleague's format as "silly" all this faffing and the team finishing top potentially not getting to the grand final makes the 27 game regular season to an extent irrelevant! Just ask Nobby

it might if they had used the mcintyre system
1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6, 3 v 5
4 winners go through, plus the 2 highest ranked losers.
2 highest ranked winners get a bye in week 2, and you have 2 elimination games , with highest ranked getting home advantage.
then at week 3 we have 4 teams left.....teams from bye week have home advantage.......and its straight knock out from there, with winners going to old trafford.
simple as ABC

TBH i reckon that would make it a disadvantage to finish top.
no game for 3 weeks after seasons finished???
weve seen teams go off the boil just having one week off

| i still to this day think the team who finishes top should be crowned champions as they have performed for the full season. The playoffs should be a seperate cup competition.
more than likely upset a few people but thats my opinion.

Week 1
Problem with top 5 is that we have a 14 team league and no relegation.
With 2 rounds of this campaign remaining 12 of the 14 teams still have everything to play for. Had it been top 5 that would effectively be 6 or 7 teams which could lead to a lethargic and boring last few weeks of the season for some.
If we still had relegation I'd go with the 5 but now that we don't I'm happy to give this a try.............and of course we get more games to enjoy!

I agree, they should have used the NRL system, but instead we get a pick your opponent system with the announcement on sky sports news....wow

2 weeks, and yeah I guess you could argue that but I reckon teams would be happy with that much time to concentrate on the final while the opposition are knocking each other to bits.

That can only be out in place if all teams play each other on a home and away basis only and there are none of the extra fixtures.
In the 2008 season for instance Wigan played Saints four times, Leeds three times and Catalan three times (the top three clubs)
This time it has been a little more even with only one extra fixture.

agree with a lot of that. Under that system theres no way can the team finishing top be considered champs, when its down to the luck of the draw fixture wise.
if we played each other once home and away , then the top team would automatically be considered the best.
to do that we would have to scrap the jolly weekend extra round, and play 26 games. This would allow us to start the season a bit later, after the WCC possibly.
alternately make it a 16 team league and play 30 , giving each club an extra 2 games income from home games.
we could fit in these extra games during the period we normally have the play offs.
it would benefit fans who would see the season extended to 35 weekends if you progress in the CC, but it wouldnt suit the RL supremos who want to expand the game by having us trecking to all over the UK for fixtures most fans (and a lot of players) could manage without.
