Was he on trial at some point?'"
He's had trials at both Wigan and Warrington, in the U21s.

| Right.
I'm suprsied nobody from superleague has ever taken him on especially when you consider teams like Salford and Celtic have come up and have been scratching around for players.
He's always been rapid when i've seen him but maybe he's got too many flaws.

| Quote: clifford "ok here goes....It just seems that you think other clubs would not be interested in the likes of coley and bailey because your opinion of them is so low. saints have enforcer props in graham etc and realistically might want coley who is solid in defence and quite quick for a prop to sit on there bench as fourth choice prop. So to would wire. The qualities they have will be snapped up at other clubs. I understand that we dont have an enforcer prop and need one (Coley is certainly not that) but I would still like to see him being kept on at Wigan for the same reasons that the likes of saints, wire and possibly hudds are interested in having him at their clubs for.
Do you kind of understand the point i am making? I still want to see Kite and Webb here, dont get me wrong.'"
You make the point that Saints and Wire would use him as a 4th choice prop and would like to seem him used in that way I would agree but he would not be used as a 4th choice prop would he? He would be a first choice prop because the standards at Wigan are that low. I agree other players deserve to leave before Coley but their contracts are not out yet are they? We can only deal with things as they come and have the opportunity to strengthen our forward pack by releasing Coley and Bailey and bringing in players who will improve the squad.
We can sign Coley and Bailey for another year all we want but we will only see the same pack get smacked across the park by other teams and players like Tronc going to Wakefield.

THE COWBOYS are preparing to make Johnathan Thurston an offer that will make the Maroons halfback the richest player in the game.
Sport Confidential has been told North Queensland are prepared to offer Thurston a staggering $700,000 a year, a deal which should stop the player rated as the best in the game from returning to the Bulldogs.
Cowboys CEO Peter Parr has been scouring North Queensland for third-party sponsors and has all but secured the deal that will be offered to Thurston during the off-season.
"I am pretty confident we'll come up with a deal that will be very hard to match," Parr said.

| [iIf[/i Coley continues to play at the level he has recently, then I think [iif[/i a wage can be agreed that suits both Wigan and Coley, we should keep him.
Reasons for this:
- he is settled at the club and will need no time to 'gel'
- his current performances are very strong and he doesn't require a quota spot
- he can provide adequate cover in the second row, which will mean we won't need to waste further money on another second rower, thereby restricting places for well performing youngsters
- a new coach should see us get the best out of him; yes he has his flaws, but I firmly believe these can be coach out of him
- as part of a properly assembled pack, there will be less demand on him and he can excel in the areas of his game that are strongest
Coley is not and never will be an exciting prop that will really get the crowd going like an enforcer or impact prop will. What he does provide however is solid defence and a willingness to take up the ball and make the hard yards in our own half of the pitch.
Obviously we'll still need another prop as well as retaining Coley, but if we can find an enforcer of the right quality, and Coley keeps up his strong performances this year, we should start to see a turn around in the pack.

So thats roughly £345,000 a year, no wonder superleague clubs couldn't match it with a £1.6 million salary cap, yes a brilliant player but not worth that when you have the restraints of the cap.

| problem i have with coley is that hes only come good in his last contract year. he was pretty average last year to be fair
given the above, if fielden is still here next year i bet he has a stormer and people will be clamoring to have him re-signed
however, if we cant sign a replacement who is at the same level, he should be kept

How does that work with no promotion or relegation?

If you win stuff, you get a big tick. Hence all the fuss from Widnes for winning the NR Cup.
