I thought that tomkins was very lucky to not get seriously hurt, cheekbone could easily have gone there imo.'" tell that to sculthorpe he's still licking his lips from the studs from his boots, don't get me wrong the lads quality but that was a dying swan if I've not seen one before

Think you are way off the mark there, Howell made no attempt to tackle him, he simply threw the elbow at Tomkins jaw, one mof the worst i have seen personally, up there with Cassidy on Morley. It was a deliberate calculated head attack in my opinion, no attempt at all to make a legal tackle.
He will get 3-4 games minimum.

Mate he came back into it very late in the fray once his head had cleared, as he was so ed off and righfully so. if you get hit on the jaw by a loose flying elbow. It was a deliberate head attack no attempt at a tackle at all.
Throwing an elbow at the jaw like that is about as bad as it gets the contact does not have to be significant to cause major damage and leave you concussed.

I will watch it again tonight , but I don't think that a rugby players instincts is to smack someone on the face intentionally with a forearm smash, there a few players that go leading in with the arm raised with the ball just as bad in my thoughts, there seems to be too much head high tackling of late

On first view at full speed i was with you, but on the replays he clearly throws an elbow, not even lead with it, he thows an elbow right at Tomkins jaw. Was like a cheap shot in a boxing match.

Probably a good idea...
One of the worst I've seen, easily up there with Cassidy on Morley or Dermott on Fittler, and only the result away from being as bad as Boyd on Brohman.
I'll be surprised if it's only a few games he misses.

| Wrapped the game up early.
Played solid rugby for the remainder.
Quins were very poor.
Some players starting to find some form at a good time for us.

i think this argument is purley out of anger/frustration at sam kicking out in the tackle at sculthorpe. there is a major difference between deliberately trying to take someones head off with an elbow and someone recklessly kicking out to try to milk a penalty/ or play the ball quickly. It doesn't matter whether a clean connection was made the intent was there. it was a bad attempt. and as for the comment about a rugby players instinct, there are some nasty f uckers that play this game and for those types there instincts can be to cause an injury. fortunately these players are in the minority. i dont know much about the quins player and im not suggesting he is a dirty player but it was a bad tackle.
