11 Starts - 17 Tries.
Great winger Roberts, who's slowly getting use to the way the club works and runs.
18 Starts - 4 Tries.
I know which one i'd have.
So do I.
The one that's performed 5/6 try saving tackles this season, the one thats scored 104 tries in 180 games in the best rugby comp in the world.
He's being dealt with the right way in my opinion. I really want him to play, but say he's gets 3games were his just bombed and bombed. Isn't good for you at all. Once he shows he can deal with the high kicks in the reserves he may get a chance too.
Sick of hearing about it really.

I agree mate.
I would love to see Ainscough in the team I really would however at the moment (through no fault of his own) he will be a target and then it will be sink or swim. Either he handles the attention he will uncountable be getting from the opposition and his confidence will be up. Or he fails to deal with them and gets stick from the "I told you so" fans both on here and in the stands.
I feel sorry for the lad, there has been so much hysteria stirred up by us lot that he is at an unfair disadvantage from a lot of young players, saying that, he will have to overcome all these obstacles and more if he is to become one of the top wingers in the game.
The thing that worries me the most is that the form he had earlier in the season came from the confidence he had gained from an initial excellent game and the momentum carried on and on up until he was dropped (unfairly IMO) after a 4 try game at wakey. As we all know confidence is a valuable commodity in sport and that could of been affected by what appears to me as witch hunting by a lot a fans (on here especially).
The one thing that can be guaranteed is that Shaun has a cracking attitude and his hunger to get back in the first team must be massive at the moment. I am certain that when he returns he will exercise his demons and shut the doubters up once and for all

| I do know that part of the reason he not playing is the S/C . The clause were a player plays so many first team games has to be counted ..or some like that..i coach the U8s at hindley with his mate.
He ok about it tho and has vowed to train as hard as he can and get better because he knows he is still learning...great attitude from the lad really...

That rumour was rubbished by Ian Lenegan a few weeks back.

The fact there are some "I told you so fans" re Ainscough/Roberts as evidenced by at least one post in this thread amazes me. In my opinion Ainscough's so called problem in defence was over hyped as a justification for Noble dropping him by Noble's supporters on here.
If Ainscough had played like Roberts on Friday it certainly would have been "I told you so" from some fans.
Defensively there is nothing in it between Roberts and Ainscough (look at ttheir stats). Attack-wise Ainscough is ahead by some distance so I really do not see why some are so keen on Roberts unless it is because that would mean disagreeing with Noble.

I think the main person responsible for any confidence sapping is not the fans as there are plenty who can see past the odd mistake but Noble who when asked about Ainscough by the media never fails to add in a negative comment, no dount in my mind to justify the fact he would eventually drop him.

That depends on whether or not they watch his game waiting for the odd error or view his game a whole.

| It's pretty obvious he's been benched because his media image is letting the club down.
After all, we are living in the era where perception is reality.

What do you think of Ainscough's defence whilst he's been playing in the reserves?
Afterall, it's those performances where his defence will be judged on.

No, but to compare Ainscough's and Roberts defence' you have to actually see it opposed to looking on a stats site. Unfortunately, stats sites do not show positional play, circumstances, opposition players and tackle assists.

| Ainy's defence has always been solid and the fact he has been outjumped a few occasions this season is just people what are looking for a reason for him to be dropped. People saying nobody deserves to be dropped at present as they are playing well, but he got dropped the week after scoring 4 tries. Brilliant confidence boost for the young ones that!

| He was dangerous all the way through the reserve game on Saturday solid in defence, think i can recall one occasion where he got out jumped but no try resulted from it.

And as we keep being told by those Category 1++++++++++++ fans who love telling us they go watching the reserves, its actually a house comp that doesn't prepare a player for SL, hence why our better young players are now generally being sent out on loan.
I've never been to a reserve game in my life, but don't need to, to know what Ainscough's weaknesses are. By the same token I also know that if other players (not just Roberts) were judged in the same way Ainscough has been in terms of defensive weaknesses and errors they should have been dropped/rested, whatever you want to call it as well, but haven't.
The whole "have you seen him in the reserves" argument is bollox when he's played more than enough games in the first team for anyone to make a judgement.
