I agree though that he would have the man-management skills and certainly would pick up on RL very quickly.
I believe that he still often talks with Wayne Bennett.'"
He maybe unproven as a coach in rugby league but he is not unproven as a coach.
He is far more proven as a coach than BN and has a background that points towards him being a success.
Not every job in RL may be right for him straight off the bat, but I think the Wigan job is one he could tackle as a proven coach and be confident we would see a significant improvement.

| Maybe having Faz who would be bigger than any of the current players would cut out the politics that seem to wreck us?
We need someone who tells the players what they have to do and not stand any crap off them.

| I don't know why we persist in talking about Farrell when discussing possible new coaches.
The last thing we need now is someone else who 'fancies having a go at it'. Surely we've seen from examples all around us that just having passion for a club isn't enough. Granted, that's better than having no passion - which seems to be one of the key problems with Noble. But Macnamara has been crap at Bradford, Cullen was woefully crap at Warrington. Loving the club just wasn't enough in any of those cases.
Look at the difference with Brown at Huddersfield. With Morgan at Hull KR. With Potter at Saints.
A experienced Aussie must be the way to go.
Bring Farrell in as his assistant, by all means - but successful coaching is far too complex a business to be entrusted to someone who's only credentials are that he once played well for the club and still loves it.
Shaun Edwards would be all that, and he'd combine it with high-level coaching skills. But Shaun is simply not available at present.
We must look to the NRL. We simply must. They're streets ahead of us, as even their 'second-rate' coaches prove time and time again.

33718_1325770967.jpg Games as big as Grand Finals define individuals and clubs. Remember, we only rent these journeys. In my time I had Pat Richard's shirt. Ellery Hanley had Sean O'Loughlin's jersey. Sam Tomkins is wearing Radders' number one jersey. Andy Coley is wearing Shaun Wayne's jersey. You have to make a mark in these shirts before you hand it down to someone else. Hand it back. So be aware for 80 minutes that you are not only playing, but you are also writing history and creating legacy. How many people actually write history - not many? A big stage demands big players…..INSPIRE YOUR TEAM MATES.

We did that once and got Stuart Raper.

I'm surprised to see the rolling eyes here.
Raper was one of the last coaches, bar Mike Gregory, who seemed to have the winning touch. On at least two occasions under Raper (one of them a cup final), an understrength Wigan team, packed with kids, outthought and outplayed a supposedly much superior St Helens side. When have we been able to say that in recent times?

If memory serves, it was Whelan's interference at team level that caused Raper to walk.
But if I'm honest, I'd want someone a bit more exciting.
