Meat from independent butchers is bound to cost more than the tasteless cack served up by the multinational faceless money generators like Tesco. Keep it local!!!'"
Not only that word has it that they provide a quantity of meat for Chaddys in Standish.
Chaddys is overrated and expensive.

That's why i thought somewhere in Wigan would have a farm shop to nip to on a Saturday morning. But looking at it, it's going to be a bit of a drive to get my veg.'"
Nip to Pem on a Saturday morning. There's a veg shop across the road as well I think.

| If you absolutely have to buy meat from a supermarket, try to ensure it's from a meat counter where you can tell the butcher what you want. If getting it off a display shelf buy organic (for taste) and ensure you look at the meat under the main shop lights, not the undershelf lighting as, daft as it sounds, you can't see so well.
Remember, you can get rubbish from any place; go in to wherever, tell them they were recommended as they don't serve crap. Hopefully you'll then get something decent. All you have to do then is cook it without mullering it!

| The best butchers I have found is in Heskin. Its close to the house WRLFC rent. Think Piggy is in there at the moment. Its only small but the quality is fantastic. I know Craig Smith had a few full pigs from there for his BBQ when he was in the house. Its family run and very friendly. There is also a good one next to The Blue Elephant, its a farm shop and interesting just to walk around. Just down the road is a farm shop that does fresh veg.
This year will be my last of buying fresh veg in, I am part way through putting up my green house and have two big veg planters/patches in the building stage. If all goes to plan I will be growing more than i can eat and will be giving them away.

| Quote: [Gareth] ""chadwicks is good but its a complete rip off. one of the stalls on the market is cheaper and is of comparible quality'"
Couldn't disagree more with you Gareth, the quality of Chadwicks is outstanding. When we get steaks / burgers / mice meat from there its far better than anything on the indoor market.

| Chadwicks is over priced run of the mill stuff really, certainly nothing better than any local corner shop butchers. The best buy there is bottled beer from the Prospect brewery.
I'd recommend Toogoods farm shop out towards Parbold (turn down the side of Wrightington country club and Toogood Lane is about 1 mile down there on the right). They only sell their own bred beef stock and is properly hung, Fridays is the best day as that's delivery day. Local lamb, venison etc etc. If you're happy with the bright red run of the mill stuff stick with Chadwicks, the proper stuff's at Toogoods.

| The shop on Toogood Lane sells top quality stuff. On the way towards Mawdsley or Ecclestone from Wrightington Country Club.
Most of the meat is produced on the farm - it looks different to most of the stuff you buy at the supermarket 'cos it doesn't have any crap added to it - and they only kill what they sell the following week or so so all very fresh.
