Are you for real? What matches have you seen with Wigan in this year? You're having a laugh! I can't believe so many people listen to billy bullshiners who come up with absolute tripe about 'poorer spectacle' and adopt it as their own opinion.

That's true. There is something vaguely sheep-like the way they're all lining up to bleat.

However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Can I just say that it is *ONLY* a "poorer spectacle" to you, the opposition fans, because your team has no idea how to cope with top-class defensive play.
The job of the defense is to STOP THE OPPOSITION FROM SCORING - Simple isn't it?
As previously stated, we actually take LESS time to get off the attacking player, all because we have already wrestled him in to a submissive position whilst he was still on his feet (i.e. tackle not completed).
That means that he lands on his back (or at best, his side) and we either get a dominant tackle (giving more time to get up - if we want it) or he has has to turn around, flip himself over and THEN get to his feet and PTB.
Whilst this is going on, our defensive line is already lined up and waiting to make the NEXT hit.
None of this is "illegal" or even "against the spirit" of any rules.
We are simply playing an extremely good, NRL-style game......
Build pressure with solid, compressed defence until the opposition tires and cracks in their defensive line start to show.
Unfortunately for Wakefield last week, no pressure was required - You crumbled straight from the off.
As for the "spectacle" that Wigan offer - Frankly, we've had to put up with playing a fairly similar game to Wakefield for the past few years (coincidence that it's another so-called "top" British coach that planned/caused it?) and I would far rather watch the "boring", "paint-drying" rubbish that Mike Maguire serves up than *ANY* of the "free-flowing", "attractive" stuff that Mr Noble had us playing. ***
Again, as previously pointed out, defence is not the only aspect to our game - We have the BEST ATTACK in the league at this point.
How can this possibly *NOT* lead to providing a top-class spectacle?
Frankly, coaches (and supporters) of clubs that are incapable of coping with our play-style need to think *FAR* more about how they can improve to catch up and stop worrying about how much damage Wigan's free-flowing attack + solid defence is doing to our game.
*** To clarify any possible confusion, the marked paragraph contained sarcasm.

I'm not just talking about Wigan - remember not everything opposition fans say directly relates somehow back to Wigan.
I mean for the game - all im saying IMO, i would prefer to watch a game with a faster ptb, than what we have got this season. The fact that Wigan are currently the best side at this new development is irrelevant, i'd say the same if it was Wakey who were the best (although just maybe not as much )

Some of the best matches i've ever seen in my life were the low scoring (5-4 for example) games back before the 10 metre rule. The fast play the ball quick scoot for easy metres bored the living crap out of me. As has been stated lots of times, we're mainly slowing the play the ball down by controlling the tackle (therefore not actually slowing the play the ball down, merely making the man have to get up off his back or side). I admire and am entertained just as much by good defence as I am by rolling the ball forward, infact the attack that entertains me the most is the sublimely timed pass to a deep runner, or quick ball through hands outwide to unlock a tight defence.
Simply making soft metres by being able to play the ball against a defence that's still backtracking bores me silly, and gets us nowhere in developing the game (as demonstrated by our total inability to use that style of play against the ockers).

Slowing the play of the ball down forces teams and their players to find more skilled ways of breaking down defences instead of just waltzing through gaps.
Players like McGuire, Burrow, Robinson, Roby. Higham etc had it all too easy for too long and their careers stalled as defences got better because they hadn't developed their other skills enough to still be a threat. Guys like Eastmond and Tomkins are becoming more rounded players because they're being tested and they have to work hard and try all options to break down defences.
Kears comments were pathetic tbh. His bottom lip was going when I saw the interview on Sky and i'd have expected better from a coach i've always regarded as pretty honest and decent.

| Well Mr Kear, hope it was an electric atmosphere at your ground yesterday with your 4,671 crowd, hope the Crusaders didn't strangle the life out of your team winning the game, hope it wasn't like watching paint dry at the Cathedral of Rugby League, Belle View, mind you it could do with a lick of paint, ( quick drying )
