It's the off season mate, not much reason to be going on oppo boards. First time I've logged into RLFans for a few weeks and that was only to read reaction to the IMG gradings.
Fwiw I am gutted about Eseh, thought he'd be a really good signing and I was nowhere near as down on Saints' recruitment compared to yours as others when I thought we'd be signing Eseh and a centre. Can't really say the same now, does feel like there's a bit of malaise around the fan base.
Personally, I think we'll be fine for next year and will compete well and either of us could win the big one. It's subjective but I still think our first choice pack is the best in the league, and is well up there even if we suffer 2-3 big absences. I am however a bit worried about where we go from there, as there doesn't seem to be any kind of succession recruitment to get us ready for what is likely a huge transition period over the next few years. Missing out on Eseh kind of feels like a confirmation of that. Likewise, whilst I am very happy with Clark, he is another short term stop gap that's just gonna tide us over for the next 2-3 seasons.
I have faith though, even when we were dog for a couple of years, we still winded up competing and being in and around the semis consistently and I trust the club to know what it's doing.
Enjoy the off season. Kind of feels similar to our off season in 2017. Of course, difference being you won this year and we missed out in 2017, but that's probably the most buzzed I've ever been for an off season as you could sense something special was brewing. No doubt feels like that for you guys now too. Be interesting to see if you can make it count on the board of honours like we eventually did

Welcome back pal, the offseason doesn't seem to apply to Redvee but so what.
It is good to read your comments and to be honest, on the whole, I agree with them. I think Saints will be there or thereabouts next season if they can get their main troops on the pitch at the right time. It as inevitable that you would have a fall in standards at some point, it happens to all successful teams in sport, the challenge is what Rush, McManus and Wellens do to fix it. For what it is worth, I think that some of your fans are getting too exercised by recent events which may be due to the fact that we won the GF and we are strengthening our squad. We need a good Saints team competing if this sport is to survive although I hope we beat you every time we play.

| I still look at Saints 17 and think ‘that’ll take some beating’ when they’re all fit. Luckily so will our 17 but there should be some great games next season. In an era where you can play teams 4 or 5+ times in a season, it was refreshing to play Saints only twice in 2023 but it does leave you eager for those games in 2024.

The problem is, they won't have their best 17 for any game next season. We may or may not but our strength in depth makes that less likely to be a problem. It would be interesting to see what the average number from the 'best 17' that each team managed to get out on to the field regularly last season was.

You are right. In effect we were missing Havard, Cooper and Byrne in the GF. Next season we could select Thompson, Ellis, Dupree, Mago, Hill, Chan, Eseh or Walters if a similar situation was to arise.

Should be a good season. It would be good if Leeds are back as well after their recruitment, and you’d like to think Warrington will be better too. Then hopefully KR and Cats can keep their momentum. I do think Leigh will drop off quite a bit, but could still make for a great season with a lot of teams challenging. This year was exciting on the whole but I think that was largely down to all the big teams being very inconsistent. Hopefully next year it will be tight and hard fought but with us all playing well

| If both teams are reasonably healthy come Good Friday, 100% very rarely happens, it should be a fantastic occasion

It really should. With all the excitement about Saints' period of dominance coming to an end and our squad looking well set, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that some of their players are already over the hill.
Last season will have hurt their pride, and with a proper pre-season I expect them to start next year pretty well.

Exactly how I see it. They’ll need some luck with injuries (something similar to that period of about 3 years when they hardly had a cold) but get that and their first choice side is a) extremely talented and b) will be hugely motivated. We’ll take them lightly at our peril.

| Write off St Helens at your peril. They came away with nothing this year but were about as close as you can get to winning all three. I don't doubt that if it weren't for the WCC they'd have finished top (which is why I'd prefer us to play Penrith in Wigan).
Quite a few of their big names are in their early 30s now but still have another season or two in them. They need Lewis Dodd to have a great off season and to come up with some new attacking ideas.
Ultimately they'll be in and around the top 2.

For me Penrith should come here but we all know they won't

| If the WCC goes ahead I wonder what the script will be regards Field and French, letting them have extra time off in Oz knowing they'll look after themselves in preparation for the league season is one thing, giving them that extra time when an undoubtedly motivated Penrith are first up is a different kettle of fish.
PS, not saying Penrith didn't care last season, they obviously did but the old NRL arrogance of "it's only a SL team" probably played a big part in them not having a warm up game before they played Saints,
