| goulding was great going forward, and looks alot more reliable than joel in his spot, with charnley receiving alot more good ball. the halves looked alot better but that was probably down to a dominant forward performance. finch was incredible at recovering loose ball. im liking the look of tuson too.

| After only playing a few games together, we are starting to see some signs that we are once again going to be in the mix come the end of the season.. The new lads need to get some more belief. Attacking wise we look better and the one thing which impresed me was that didn't switch off which we could be accussed of many times last season. Defence was really good.
Well done! 7/10... the signs look good.

| I think its fair to say that whilst we were good, Leeds were very poor tonight and seem to be playing exactly like they did this time last year ie trying to force the play when they should of been settling things down with basic play. In the early part of the second half Leeds forwards were trying to force the pass early in the tackle count and you just knew that they were never going to win the game that way.
Wigan bullied their pack out of the game in that first half with good controlled aggression and i thought the Wigan players did very well to maintain their discipline when it really mattered.
Micky Mac was sensational.

| Tonights performance came on the back of 2 things
An excellent kicking game
A dominant forward pack
The rest came into it's own. Just goes to show the importance of getting the kicking right. Leeds looked tired and p*ssed off with constantly having to bring the ball from their own 20. The go forward and ultra aggresive defence spurred on the backs. Tommy & Finch worked tirelesly with their organisation and Finch was everywhere - I think he cleaned up all of Leeds ball spills. Mcillorum was immense in defence and certsinly banjoed a few of the Leeds players.
Despite my reservations I think that Wane has been justified in some of his comments - The skill levels looked better and the defence was brutal (even though I thought under Maguire it was brutal at times). I think that last weeks game has gone down as a learning point for Wane and I don't see the team or coaching team making the same mistakes in under estimating the opposition again this season. From tonights showing there is an awful lot to be excited about, especially when this team can only get better as the season goes on.

| A massive difference tonight imo was the fact we turned up thinking that we had play well to win rather than thinking it was in the bag. The kicking game made sense and the tackling was brutal.
All the people going bananas after last week look utterly stupid now.

i agree that some of the comments from last week were over the top, but then its unnecessary saying this when we could quite easily turn in another poor performance next week. but regardless, this week was encouraging.

IMO it was pretty obvious we needed more game time together last week.. massive overreaction as per usual...

Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

| The difference between this week and last? Desire! We wanted it more this week and it showed in everything we did, from great scramble defense to accurate slick passing.

| Charnley was superb for you tonight. He kept his head up despite his first try being disallowed and got on with the game. That's a sign of maturity and I hope he has a great season.

| Quote: NickyKiss "Not turning this in to a 'told you so' thing but I said in the week it was crazy to write off players like Goulding and McIlorum so soon and both were outstanding tonight. I also said today we must give Lauaki a chance and he was another who was excellent showing great footwork and aggression.
Well done to the 3 of them. I'm really happy for them and Wane.'"
Micky Mac cops a lot of unjustified stick. If he has a bad game he is not good enough for Wigan to some who seem to ignore games like this one and the 2010 GF. As to Goulding he still has to prove he can be 1st choice centre because he has not got performances under his belt like Micky to point to. He looks like he will get his chance though and given the way he was treated by Noble, good luck to him. As to Lauaki he was pretty average and far from excellent.

| It's amazing the difference when kicks find the floor in the right places. Wigan earned their corn tonight. Got the basics right. I also thought Charnley was unlucky to have his first try disallowed as the ball had gone past the dummy runner & he couldn't change his line.
And all the fuss about Hudds lying on last week...the loiners made us look like rank amateurs in that department with the likes of Maguire,Sinfield, Webb etc.
A well-earned victory for the pies & a big reality check for the doom & gloom merchants in your stable from round one.

I'd say that's debatable. Goulding has had good performances just like McIlorum. I think McIlorum gets more stick because he plays in a position that has arguably the most influence on the whole team. Some of the criticism is also because we have a very good alternative in Leuluai, which is why there's a lot of debate.

| Complete turn around from last week. The pack was totally dominant, Mossop had a superb game, Lauaki looked very good to imo, I was sceptical when we signed him but think he put in a good performance today.
The desire was clear to see and our defence was absolutely brutal which had a few leeds players rattled.
Micky Mc really put himself about and caused a lot of problems for leeds. He is one tough nut!! But he along with the whole squad just looked generally sharper, quicker and more aggressive than last week which was very good to see. Certainly have a much more positive outlook after today in comparison to last week.

| the interesting thing is when mcilorum plays well as a hooker, he plays like no other hooker in super league. great aggression in the middle of the pitch.
